A pillowy well laced off-white head on a cldar straw body. obvious effervescence. The nose leads with Belgian yeast, supported by a herbal wash and citrus hop notes. A fresh, balanced and very drinkable Saison. The yeast is the lead taste element with typical banana notes. Peaches and lemon are first among a range of fruity accents. Earthy spices, sweet bready malt and pepper add to the mix. A rich and smooth mouth feel. Very nicely done.

750ml bottle from the LCBO.
bright, golden pour, with a big bubble white head.
big fresh grassy hop aroma with some good cereals. Great carbonation, solid mouth feel. Wonderful malty, cereal finish, with a good amount of bitterness. light peppery notes, with the sharp grassy hops, and touches of funk. nice saison.

Pours clear gold into a snifter. Bright white head with good retention recedes to coat surface. Caramel, bread, hay and candi aromas. Sharp with sweet candi and herbal yeast upfront turning to bitter earth in the lasting finish.

500ml bottle from a local Metro store... after visiting the brewery a few months back. Pours a hazy golden colour with a white cap, good stay and fluffy foamy lacing. Did not like aromas at first pour, but eventually, it gets back in place with the citrus notes, Saison yeast sweetness and fresh grassy hops. The taste is a little more on the hoppy side with the citrus zest in the background. Some tartiness on the tongue. Not bad, but not in my top Saisons for sure.

Found at Marché Omni. Pours a very slight hazy, light golden colour with a big creamy white head that lasts a very, very long time and chunks out foamy lacing. The smell at first reminds me of my first Unibroue experiences when they started. Spicy nose (peppery) with the Belgian Ale yeast, mild grass and citrus. Beautiful mouthfeel with just a little dryness in the finish, from the hop. Not overly bitter with a 35 IBU, which works well for this one. Very well-balanced taste of milder spices with the rest. The fruity aspect of a Saison are here, but come in and out as it breathes. Goes down very nicely and can be enjoyed any time of the year.

Pours a very slightly cloudy blonde with a vicious head, even meatier than your standard saison. Once it died down I’m getting citrus, yeast but not a heavy smell, but it might be my nose today. The taste delivers some bitterness that hides a heavier sweet-citrus malt under. The yeast that should be there get lost. It’s ... ok.

Tap at Erzbierschof Zurich. Citric grassy aroma with hints of funky saison yeast. Oily medium body. Some bitterness, a tad of sourness. Still grassy on the palate, like spring. Nice!

On tap at Brewskey, Montreal. It pours a clear, dark golden body under a creamy finger thick off-white head. The aroma has canned tropical fruits, some pale malts and hints of yeast and pepper. Especially the yeast and pepper are more evident in the flavor, with tropical fruits and pale malts as a backdrop. Dry, full-bodied and too heavy on the carbonation. Nice bitterness all the way. A nice beer, nothing more. 150611

750mL bottled 5/27/15, drunk 10/20/15.
Big pop from the cap, followed by a highly clear, brilliant, sparkling golden liquid issuing forth. A very large white head sits atop with strong retention. Sediment left behind on the bottom. So far so good.
Wow, that is refreshing to smell....after nearly being beaten in to submission by sour saisons, barrel aged saisons, fruited saisons, non-saison saisons, American saisons, etc....I think this is actually a saison! Baked bread, dough, black and white pepper, delightfully spicy hops and very low fruitiness, with light mustiness, earthiness and cellar qualities. Very light malt qualities overall, or I should say, nicely attenuated. The only drawback/flaw I found was a fairly prominent compound from what I associate with adjunct sugar fermentation (sort of vaguely vanillin-cotton candyish); not sure the culprit, as I can’t imagine they used candi sugar. Could just be too much dextrose in the bottle conditioning. No alcohol noted.
In the mouth, the beer follows from the nose. Delightful baked grains, honey and a near perfect amount of bitterness/hop apparency. Noble hops galore, with none of the American-hopped saison madness traits. The attenuation is spot-on, being more dry than Dupont (though a bit less hoppy too keep the balance) and about on par with Blaugies. Delightful phenols, no alcohol and a wonderfully creamy, tightly carbonated, unfiltered texture. A touch of vanilla/cake icing-like flavor and perhaps just a bit of vegetal character from the hops, but these are nitpicked very minor qualms. By and large this is a fantastically drinkable saison in the best sense of the word. One I’d happily put right up with the best Belgian/French examples. Been a LONG time since I’ve had what was once one of my favorite breweries on the East Coast and it’s good to see that they are still absolutely killing it! Cheers and thanks for the bottle, Youri!

Draught @ Vices & Versa, Montréal. Pours clear golden with small white head. Clear aroma of malt and hops, with notes of needles and herbs. Sweetish, malty flavour with bitter hints of hops and some bready touches. Sweetish and hoppy aftertaste. Come on, is this a Saison? It tastes like a Heller Bock. Drinkable but nothing really special.
