I am not a great lager/pilsner fan, but this was OK. Brown 750ml bottle, from Morrison’s supermarket, best before 2007, drank in March 2007. Poured into two Hoegaarden Grand Cru tulip glasses, looks like a lager. Clear golden yellow, straw blonde when held up to the light. Large white head straight after the pour, soon dispersed to almost nothing. Lagers don’t really have much aroma to my thinking, this was no different, a slight hoppy, wheaty, nothingy smell. Crisp dry taste, hops are in there, not a bad taste, thirst quenching in my opinion. Watery mouthfeel, but this is a lager, what do you expect? It holds it’s hop flavour and dryness. This is not a great beer, but it was just what I needed this evening, something light to go with a salad meal. I have no problems with it and would be happy to have another if asked, wouldn’t buy another, but I’d drink one!

Originally rated December 2002. Lightly golden with good white head. Medium hop scent, smooth mouthfeel and thin bodied. Bitter taste with light dry finish. Nice refreshing beer, but still was expecting more from this one.

Bottle bought in Johannesburg. Light yellow colour with a tiny white head. Light malt and hoppy aroma. Very typical industrial mild lager beer. Mild hoppy and malt flavour.

Unpleasant lager with a poor malty finish. Sadly its widely distributed in southern Africa.

33cl bottle. Golden with slight bubbles and not much head which disappears fairly quickly. The nose has faint pale malt. The taste is more malt, quite sweet actually. The palate is fine - light to medium but refreshing. Overall, not a world-beater but very sessionable.

OK, this is very bizarre. When I travel with Steptin, we are constantly amazed at how similarly we rate beers. Now here I am in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, drinking a local Castle lager, which I rated as a 2.2. Then to my shock and amazement, when I return to the hotel room to enter my rating, I find that Bierkrug has given him the same beer, and you’ll never guess what he’s rated it. And the most amazing thing is that it was far more interesting to read this story than it was to rate yet another underwhelming developing world lager.Earlier Rating: 8/16/2009 Total Score: 2.1Clear yellow, fluffy white head. Very distant malt aroma. Not much body, light on taste as well. Scant bitterness in the finish. Nothing to write home about.

30cl bottle from a South-African colleague. An uninspiring lager. Probably would be ok on a hot day
