The Citra Saison is Brew By Numbers' modern interpretation of a Belgian farmhouse classic. The hops balance the yeast character while a light spicing adds complexity.

Tap at Oersoep festival. Hazy straw with huge white head. Dough, quite yeasty with spicy cloves and pepper, lime peel, slight lactic tough and herbal finish. Light sweet and medium bitter. Medium bodied with a bit creamy feel. Very nice.

Bottle. Nose is powerfully citra, with lemon, lemon grass, pepper, some spice and yeast. The lemon is too much. The taste follows with the citra and lemon and lemon grass overpowering the beer, with grass, cellar, and spice following. It’s a shame but this is all lemon, and is not a great beer. 2021 with honest brew. Nose is citrus, yeast, popcorn, lime, 7up, hint of orange. Taste is lemon, orange, lime, very juicy leading to a yeast and peppery finish. I found this far more enjoyable than I clearly did 6 years ago.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours yellow with a slight haze and a lively, white head. Very unfortunate diacetyl aroma in the nose, overpowering the Citra. Medium body, soft on the palate, sulphurous, but I cannot get rid of that horrible diacetyl aroma. Ends dry. Could’ve been pleasant. 200515

Bottle from Corks of Cotham, Bristol. Pale gold in colour, with a big, rocky, white head and slight carbonation. Sweet, perfumed, floral hop and Belgian yeast aroma with some wheaty grains. Sharp, lemon flavour with some tangerine, crisp malts and a dry, tingly finish. Very good.
