Caramel, roasted, black and chocolate malts provide an explosion of coffee like flavors.
The strong espresso character comes from the addition of espresso beans to the boil.
Notes of vanilla, dark fruit , cocao and chocolate.
The very unusual character of Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout stems from the fact that Kiuchi Brewery is using the recipe of a Russian Imperial Stout as base.
Pitch black color, big brown head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted bitterness, black currants, dark fruits.
Hop: Chinook, Kent Golding
Malt: Pale, Crystal, Black, Chocolate
Others: Roasted Barley, Coffee beans
SRM: 100

Bottle shared at home. Espresso dark brown with thin creme head. Sweet chocolate malts, ground coffee beans, espresso, hazelnut. Medium sweet, medium bitter. Full body, thick round feel, dry cocoa/coffee bitterness. Low to no carbonation. Coffee taste is nice but a bit like old coffee, still quite dense but nothing like fresh espresso. --- Beer merged from original tick of Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout on 21 Nov 2017 at 22:06 - Score: 8. 330ml bottle. Pours black with a good two-finger brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, dark fruit, touch of vanilla. Flavour is the same with roasted malts and a lovely coffee hit, with chocolate and dark fruit notes. Good carbonation and creamy smooth mouthfeel, bitter. Fantastic brew.

Bottle. A- Chocolate, roasty, subtle dark fruits, subtle iron. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Chocolate, tootsie rolls, coffee, slightly sweet, slight roasted bitterness. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, malty finish. O- For being an espresso/coffee forward stout, it’s surprisingly mundane and actually holds much more chocolate flavor. Good stuff but maybe not as rich or robust as it could be.

Asahiya hooked my wife and I up with this Valentine’s Label version of their Espresso Stout 7% which is the highest rated Japanese Brew. It pours a dark black with a lovely rusty tan head. A creamy ground espresso bean aroma entices. Fairly full bodied with a somewhat dry finish. The taste is espresso with a light sweetness then bitter dark chocolate and roastiness. Very solid stuff.

0.33l bottle, courtesy of Cristobal37. Black body, beige head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, caramel and cream. Taste of coffee, cream, chocolate and hints of floral hops. Medium body, creamy texture. I like it very much.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BBE 09/2016, from Alko Arkadia, 20151009) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized, lightly brown and it lasted long. Aroma had burnt malts, coffee and creaminess. Palate was medium bodied and fizzy. Flavours were burnt malts, coffee, sweetness, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste had coffee, burnt malts and bitterness. A good coffee infused stout.

Pours black, small, dark head fades fast. Smell is espresso, indeed. Ok intensity. Taste is espresso, but in a very balanced, not overpowering manner. I like it a lot, even though I disslike coffee very much. It has that... Bad taste. Some offeebeers have it, some don’t. This one hasn’t , but has got all the good essence of coffee a stout can have. In the background are dark malts, and a bitterness. The aftertaste reminds of chocolat and coffee. All together, this is a very nice balanced beer, with very full flavor and yet -by compare - low abv. Lovely !
