Bourbon barrel-aged imperial sour brown ale with blueberry and cinnamon

Sometimes we bring the funk; sometimes we bring the monk. Cinnamonk blurs the lines as we blended a traditional bourbon barrel-aged quadrupel ale with a funk-forward Flemish-style red ale and treated it with cinnamon and blueberries for a result bearing fructuous returns.

bottle. Pours murky mahogany, small fizzy tan head, dissipates quickly, minimal residual. Aroma is bourbon forward, berries, tannin, vanilla. Flavor is light plus tart, heavy bourbon, tannin, leather, blueberry. Medium body, low carbonation. Odd

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is unique with some light blueberry notes and moderate cinnamon. Quite a bit of malt character with toasted bread, caramel and toffee. Hints of chocolate. Some light berry and cherry notes. Light acidity. Hints of oak with medium light bourbon notes and alcohol spice. Pours a dark brown with a medium sized, medium thick, brown he’s that recedes somewhat quickly to the edges where it lingers for a bit. No lacing and moderate legs. Flavor is slightly acidic with a lingering twang. Light citrus notes, but most of the acidity comes from the berries. Some moderate sweetness with caramel, toffee, hints of chocolate and some toasted bread. Light cinnamon with moderate berry notes. Lots of blueberry notes with other berry, cassis and cherry notes. Medium light bourbon with light oak and alcohol spice. Medium bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall, a weird beer. Very muddled. The blueberry and cinnamon work well together, but it doesn’t really work with the rest of the beer. Too high of an ABV for it to be sour, but thankfully the acidity isn’t sharp.

750ml bottle pours a muddy, bloody brown with some cloudy head. Nose is raisins and prunes and candy and brown sugar. Flavor has dates, prunes, raisins, figs, candy, mild acid. Full bodied, tart finish.

Bottle thanks to Will. Pours a very dark brown with medium beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong blueberry, oak, spice. Thick mouth, berry, cherry skin, oak tannin, vinegar, nice sourness, really enjoyed this one.

dark brown, bottle didn’t gush but there was a steady stream of foam coming out of that bottle for close to an hour. Smells really freaking good. blueberry, oak tannins, juicy, cinnamon is certainly present. Loads of blueberry which is really surprising. The booze (12.1%) is very noticeable. blueberry, cinnamon, tart, toast, sourdough, clove, sugar. lots of awesome in here. It’s borderline TOO sour for me but worth trying.

Draft - Sweet and light acetone with some medicinal notes. Deep brown with a light brown head. Berry, medicinal and spice with a bit of throat burn. Not pleasant.
