Sometimes we bring the funk; sometimes we bring the monk. Cinnamonk blurs the lines as we blended a traditional bourbon barrel-aged quadrupel ale with a funk-forward Flemish-style red ale and treated it with cinnamon and blueberries for a result bearing fructuous returns.

750 ml bottle via dbarnold. Pours a darker reddish-brown color with a tan head. This one has some fruitiness from the blueberry, and just in general in reminiscent of a lot of the Flanders sour red style beers I have tried. There's done cinnamon, which provides more of a balancing component then a strong flavor component, and definitely enhances as the beer warms. I guess I was expecting more cinnamon to come through, but I'm not sure the lack of an overpowering cinnamon presence is a bad thing. Gets boozy, a little vinous, and fairly strongly sour. Has a bit of heat, but I probably would have guessed it was under 10% without looking. Overall, this is a decent one, that kind of here on me the more of it I drank. As it warms the flavors move from somewhat disjointed to fairly composed. Solid overall.

Bottle. The beer is dark brown, possibly cloudy but it’s a bit too dark to tell. The head is light beige and looks fairly fizzy. The bubbles dissipate pretty quickly and leave no lacing behind. The aroma has a lot of fruit to it. Woody flavors from the cinnamon and bourbon barrel. Some vanilla and caramel sweetness in the mix. The blend of blueberry, cinnamon and bourbon is actually a lot nicer than expected. The taste is medium sweet with moderate sourness. Mild to moderate woody bitterness. Vanilla and blueberry sweetness with some toasty caramel. Fairly strong cinnamon spice. Full body. Doesn’t get sticky. Alcohol is present but mostly hidden by the other flavors. Easier to drink than expected. Nice mix of fruit and spice.
