Dark Island reserve is a rich strong Orcadian Ale. After a gentle fermentation at our brewery, the beer is finished in old oak casks formerly used to mature fine scotch malt whisky. This unhurried process creates a timeless classic full of fruit, spice, oak and roast malt flavours.

750ml bottle @ ISKTR
Pours pitch black with a tiny bubbly head. Aroma of roasty malts, whisky, oak, wood, ripe fruits, spices, plum, berries and syrup. Taste is smooth, sweetish and heavy with whisky notes, oak, berries, syrup, hints of licorice and toffee. Finish is sweetish, heavy and oaky with loads of berries and syrup. Quite heavy and sweet.

Bottle from The Real Ale a Store, Newark. Thick black colour with a beige head. Fruity aroma, taste is toasted malt and fruity. No really much like a barley wine. But good.

Black beer with a thin beige head. Fruity scent. Strong fruity beer, malty too. Actually a very basic flavour but it’s gorgeous.

Bottle thanks to Rick. Pours a dark brown with beige head. The aroma is dark fruit and chocolate. Thin mouth, roast, oak, dark fruit, boozy finish, very good.

Bottle. Nose of fudge, caramel, whisky; rich and chewy, some grapes and a winelike character. Black-brown with lace. Flavor is fudge and booze, whisky and wine, wood, a touch of coffee, treacle. Smooth and chewy, a bit alcoholic. Lovely malt, not cloying. Much of a big Scotch ale than BW.

Had this months ago. Pours deep mahagony, almost black. Thin foam, only some lacing. Aroma feels somewhat raw but deep at the same time. You can feel alcohol. Aroma is actually quite soft, velvety. When I have a sip, I am not sure if this is beer or not. Feels like port wine, strong in alcohol, velvety, barrel had a good impact on this one and it really drinks as "whiskey port" if there is something like this. Wicked. Is it beer? Maybe, but it certainly tastes great!
