12 ounce can, 7/9/20. Dark brown, large fizzy tan head, fair retention. Aroma of strong maple, roast, whiskey, vanilla, brown sugar. Taste is maple, sugar, roast, coffee, booze. Full bodied, boozy but not too bad. Sweet but balanced by the booze primarily. Would rather it be balanced by more roast. Decent, but a bit much.

Can from Holiday Market. Pours a deep, rich brown with a quickly dissipating half finger of beige foam. Maple syrup, cinnamon and vanilla aromas sit on roasted coffee and light cacao notes. Crispy kit kat wafers on the palate with more maple syrup and cinnamon notes. A bit boozy and bitter, but still a fun beer. Thin like most Michigan stouts. Another solid Pigeon Hill brew.

12 ounce can into snifter; no can dating, but is a recent release. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar, coffee, marshmallow, fudge, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of nutmeg, raisin, molasses, smoke, bourbon, toasted oak, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, maple/spice, and light-moderate bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar, coffee, marshmallow, fudge, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of nutmeg, raisin, molasses, smoke, bourbon, toasted oak, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light roast/herbal/spice bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar, coffee, marshmallow, fudge, toasted dark/brown bread, nutmeg, raisin, molasses, smoke, bourbon, toasted oak, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, maple/spice, and light-moderate bourbon barrel flavors; with an awesome roast/spice bitter/sweet balance; and zero cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and full body; with a very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is amazing. Slight sticky hops/spice, chalky roast, oak tannins, slickness, and dryness. Alcohol is very well hidden; a very mild warmth of 11%, with zero barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an amazing spiced imperial stout! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, maple/spice, and light-moderate bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV. Not a ton of barrel here but solid. The silky/velvety finish it imparts to the base beer only makes it that much better. Liked it a notch better overall. Much more mellowed out on the bitterness, richer on the fudge/marshmallow dessert aspects. Not overly sweet. Same great balance of stout and french toast flavors as expected. A highly enjoyable offering.
