Named after a famous local mountain – Schiehallion (pronounced ‘She-hal-i-on’) presented a huge challenge – creating a Pilsner the Czech would be proud of. Brewed with lager malt and Hersbrücker and Challenger hops. Fermented with a lager yeast.

Bottle at The Apiary. Clear golden body with a thin white head that slowly fades. Lively carbonation. Aroma of grain, biscuit and citrus. Flavour is earthy and nutty with a subtle under-ripe tropical fruit quality. Very clean and quaffable. Thin body with a light texture. Soft fizz. Probably my favourite widely available Lager.

50cl bottle. Poured clear golden with a frothy, white head, nice lacing. Aroma is citrus hoppy fruity and maltiness. Flavor is citrus, hops, cookies and malt. Decent bitterness in the finish. Thin body, otherwise refreshing and nicely hopped.

A golden beer with a almost medium and white head. Aroma is fresh and nicely aromatic, fruitness, citrusfruity hoppyness and smooth malts. Taste is light malty and slightly biscuity, some fruits, almost medium, grassy hoppyness in the aftertaste. Medium- bodied, nice carbonation, smooth to drink. Nice, aromatic beer with enough of bitterness.

Draft at In De Wildeman. Clear gold pour with a medium white head. Aroma of citrus, grass, fresh hops and floral aspects. Strong citrus, grassy fresh flavour leading to a more subdued bitter finish with some spice. Medium carbonation and above light body.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Thanks beerandbeyond. Pleasant hoppy aroma with flowers, some grass and light graininess. Flavor has light malty bready sweetness and pleasant mild bitter floral hops. Medium-bodied. A nice refreshing lager.

Bottle from Half Time. Pours light amber gold with a slight white head. Noble hop aroma - perhaps with a little breadiness. Med body. Flavor of pale malt and grassy/herby hop. There’s a fair amount of hop, but the breadiness acts as backbone. Comes across like a German pils? But hoppier than most. If the ABV was higher, this might be considered imperial. Finishes hoppy!

The fourth beer in my random beer tasting evening on 12 Aug 2011. The 500ml brown bottle had almost 15 months life left, so it was fairly fresh when it got poured into two Veltins Pilsner badged stemmed tulip glasses. A Scottish craft lager, it looked fine, like a golden clear lager/pilsner should, the thin pure white head also typical of the style. The Hallertau Hersbrücker, Styrian Goldings and Challenger hops don’t give off much aroma, nor does whatever ’lager malt’ and ’lager yeast’ are. There is a slight hoppy smell, but not much. The taste however is certainly hoppy. Refreshing and clean tasting, with hints of grapefruit throughout. Good body depth (for the style) and all in all a good friendly lager.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Alexandria cask ($7): Pours an orangeish colour with a nice creamy white head. Aroma is bready and fruity, but the taste is where it is at. It is kind of fruity. Nice amount of bitter hops. Bready finish. Extremely chuggable, but in the most pleasant possible way a beer can be chuggable. I was very impressed by this offering. This might be the best nondescript lager I have ever had.
