"In the early days of Carakale, there was so much work to be done that I was living in the brewery - just me and two curious Camel Spiders! Each night before bed, I would shout a warning to my unwanted roommates, 'Shebeth!' (Arabic for camel spider) 'I'm not afraid!' Camel Spiders are the size of a grown man's palm, they run 30mph, and possess two sets of fangs. First set to bite and the second to pull you in! With time and several experimental Stouts and Ales to fuel my bravery, I faced down my fears and conquered obstacles to make Carakale a reality. Shebeth... this one's for you!"

I located a 500 ml bottle of BCS at a specialty wine and beer shop in Santa Fe last year. Not cheap, not outrageous but worth the try, I like the style. No reaction after I lift the cap but there is a fair head of taupe foam in the pour that lies on top of a fully black body. The scent is an interesting earthy bit of chocolate sweetness and leather. I take a drink, dark fruit, dark chocolate, heavy with grain, roastiness to a small degree and a touch of brown sugar. Slightly bitter. A shot down the middle for the style in my estimation. I'm glad to have a sampling, though not having a total re-estimation of my opinion on imperial porters.

16.9 ounce bottle from Susan’s Fine Wines, 1/22/22. Yay new country! About fucking time. It’s old, “Export 21/11/2017.” Hopefully it’s held up well, and there’s a chance it did given the style. This beer barely knows the COVID world, which is nice. Anyway… Black, large frothy brown head, good retention. Aroma of roast, chocolate, soy, dark fruits. Showing its age. Taste is roast, chocolate, cork, treacle, anise. A bit thin, booze present but not bad. Overall pretty nice beer. New country!!!!!

500ml bottle from Boise Co-op. Near black pour, foamy beige head fades to ring. Aroma is coffee and dates. Taste amplifies the coffee bitterness, minor sweetness from the dates, rich roasty malts, dark chocolate. If you've ever had the Dark Chunky bar, it's like that, but with some warmth.

From a 500 ml bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Coffee aroma. Flavors are bitter burnt coffee softened by date sweetness. Lingering bitterness on the palate.

Bottle from Berkeley Bowl West. Pours dark brn/blk with a dark tan head that was transient. Aroma of burnt dark malt, coffee, dark fruit and something herbal. Full bodied. Very undry. Slick with anise. Dark fruits. Coffee providing bitter. Tastes lightly phenolic. Might kill germs! Woody. There are many things going on with this. These brewers don't adhere to the normal limits!!!! Challenging, but good stuff!

Bottle. Dark brown, tan head. Purchased in D.C. Cardamon aroma. Medicinal. Roasted malt, licorice, cardamon. Not great, but a Jordan tick.

Bottle at home this brewery makes it here regularly so figured this seemed interesting. Lovely dark pour one finger head. Nose is dark fruit, cola, and coffee. Tastes are coffee, dates, plums, cola, molasses, light spice. Some boozy heat at the end. Not too sweet and the local Jordan ingredients are nice touch.

(Thanks Jim! Ozzy70) Bottle. A- Coffee, spices, cola, mild dates. A- Black color, black liquid, light brown head. T- Cardamom, coffee, fruity, cocoa, cola. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- A pretty big want list beer of mine. Enjoyed it quite a bit. Lots of coffee but do wish the dates were more present. The cardamom adds a nice unique flavor but it does seem to be a bit overdone. If the cardamom was more subdued and there was some vanilla I think this would be exceptional. Nice beer with a unique twist.
