Iconic bottles, distinctive flavors and outright admiration for each other. One way or another, we were going to brew a beer with our friends at Cascade Brewing. Together, we developed a new sour tripel recipe that we would brew at our separate facilities with each other - one here in Orange County, CA and the other in Portland, Oregon. The collaborative concept called for treating our creations with the same regional ingredients: Meyer lemons from California and marionberries from Oregon. Both brews would be destined to mature for over a year in oak under our respective roofs.
At Bruery Terreux, we utilized a mix of New American Oak puncheons, fresh bourbon barrels, port barrels and oak wine barrels to create the ideal blend of flavors, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the complex, tangy tripel that emerged. Try it side by side with Cascade’s release to see how a single recipe can be interpreted One Way or Another.

Bottled 750ml. -at Goblet Zagreb. No year stated on the label. Unclear red coloured, minimal off-white head that went away fast, berries and light barrel in the nose. Sourish berries, fruity, jam like touch, some barrel notes and touch of alcohol in the finish.

On tap at Cascade, pours a clear dark ruby red with a small pink head. Aroma brings out tart marionberries, tart lemon, and gentle wine notes. Flavour is tart and berry-forward, with lots of tart marionberries, a little citrus, and some wine notes. Berry-forward, with just enough citrus. Very good.

Bottle from (I think) ex-Bottle Shop, Bermondsey stock. Vermillion coloured pour with a white head. Red cherries, dark plums, blackcurrant jam aromas. Taste is tart red berries, lemon zest, light spice, oak. No idea what marionberries are but they're probably in there too. Tart, dry finish. Quality brew.

On tap. Pours a dark red with light white head. Aromas of cassis, salal, spicy blackberries and sharp wheat. Flavors of sharp dark berries, citrus spice almost like like nutmeg, dark cherries and wheaty malts. Nice barrel effects.
