Butty Bach is a Welsh term meaning ‘little friend’ – and this charmingly smooth premium ale has certainly made more than a few friendships in its time. We brew it using Maris Otter and Crystal malts together with locally grown Fuggles, Goldings and Bramling Cross hops. With such fine ingredients, no wonder it remains a firm favourite.

500ml bottle from Sainsbury's, London, England. Pours a clear gold color with an off-white head and decent retention. Decent lacing. Light bread and malt aroma. The taste follows the nose, with pale malts and more bread. Smooth and clean. Nothing special, just a textbook blonde. Medium-heavy body. Low carbonation. Low bitterness. Moreish.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Waitrose on Oxford Street. Pours clear copper-gold with a fine, creamy off-white head. Light sweet flavour with notes of sun-kissed bready malts, a little yeast, mild bitter toasted hay, dough, faint citrus accents. Light bodied with average carbonation. Balanced finish, malty, bready, subtly bitter. Enjoyable, drinks nicely.
