We believe that the key to brewing a great strong beer is to make it well-balanced with a good use of hops. This makes Otter Head easily drinkable and an excellent choice with food. Whilst it has a distinctive barley wine, old ale character it remains light to drink with a malty, fruity and slightly sweet flavour with a long bittersweet aftertaste. The fruit and malt aroma sits well with the beer’s deep, luxurious red/brown colour – still a firm favourite on many bars.

Cask ale, shared with Finn at Brass Monkey. Deep mahogany coloured body, Frothy beige head leaving crocheted lacing on the glassware. Chocolate malts on the nose, lightly roasted. Fine blended taste profile of chocolate malts and dried fruits. Malt-fruity bitterness to a pleasant finish. Medium bodied. Perfect drink after my bacon and chicken salad (Plymouth 22.09.2016).

Chelmsford Summer Beer Fest. Cask. Light haze on this deep amber beer. Residual bubbly pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Mild fine carbonation. Rich malts but not heavy. Good semi sweet dark toffee. Ripe fruits blend well with the toffee. Traces of hard candy fruits and sweet esters. Toucb of floralness. Light finish. Dark toffee lingers on. Good stuff.

Half-pint at the 2014 Lincoln Beer Festival. Good looking dark, deep brown beer with a full white crown on top. Malty from the start, this is a fruity, wholesome brew that oozes flavour. The hops keep the maltiness in check to produce a lovely blend that is easy to drink, mildly bitter towards the finish.

Copper-brown in colour with a strong aftertaste, although the strength is hidden somewhat by the fruity sweet flavours which are also evident in its aroma.

50cl bottle. Pours a lovely amber with gentle bubbles and a nicely proportioned head some of which remains. The nose has raisins and flour. The taste has flour and toffee this time and chocolate biscuits on the finish. The palate is rich but very tight, then a compact middle section which continues into a long dry finish. Overall, a nice strong bitter.
