Very traditional Belgian Christmas ale, as in: a spiced Scotch. Yellowish, roughly mazed, not very stable foam on a deep bronze beer with a wine-red glow, clear and transparent with vivid carbonation. Dark maltiness in the noses with hints of dates, dark chocolate, orange peel, coriander, a whiff of coffee beans, nuts, candi sugar, thyme, port wine, liquorice; tastes initially fruity with citrussy freshness and a rather harsh carbonisation, rounded and smooth mouthfeel with gentle spiciness, nutty malt base, a bit resinous, in the end chocolatey bitterish, little hops but dry due to warming alcohol. Delivers what it has to deliver in this genre but I’ve had many winter warmers in the exact same style which are a lot better.

Little cloudy reddish purple beer, big aery yellowish head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, red fruits, bit sourish, caramel, sugary. MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, lots of caramel, dried fruits, bit roasted, bit of milk chocolate. Aftertaste: soft bitterness, lots of dried fruits and overripe banana. Decent but not great.

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy brown/orange and with a diminished off-white head. Spiced aroma. Flavour holds sweet malt, slight breadish and a mellow spice note. Sweet dried fruit. Ends with a smooth spice and fruity note. Nice but also somewhat off-balance.
