Barley Wine - som navnet antyder er det en drik af næsten vinstyrke, men blot lavet på bygmalt i stedet for druer. Rig og fyldig med karamelnoter som sig hør og bør for typen, men med tilstrækkelig humle til at holde både sødme og alkohol i skak. Udtrykket "Barrel Proof" kendes fra den amerikanske bourbonindustri, hvor det bruges om en whiskey, der tappes på flaske uden nogen form for fortynding. Og således også med vores Barrel Proof, der har tilbragt 5 måneder netop på bourbonfade og derefter tappet på flaske helt uden svinkeærinder. Resultatet er en øl, der i høj grad er til stille nydelse og fordybning. Og hvad derefter sker, kan vi ikke tage ansvaret for - men vi hører meget gerne om det!

(Bottle) Brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, vinous nose with notes of caramel, burnt sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, wood, bourbon and toffee. Malty, vinous taste with caramel, toffee, crisp-bread, raisins, vanilla, burnt sugar, oak wood, bourbon, orange peel and a warming finish with a balanced citric, spicy bitterness. Almost full body, quite sweet. Really tasty and in excellent balance. Quite powerful, but all the flowers overshadow the alcohol. Very nice.

Bottled (backlog). Deep copper colour with a mediumsized foamy off-white head that leaves good lace. Aroma is vanilla, some fruity, sweet malty and mild resiny and drief fruity notes. Flavour is sweet malts, some fruits, vanilla and some nice fudgelike notes to it.

Bottle at tasting. Aroma of vanilla and malt mostly. Taste has malt and raisin at first, followed by stingy bourbon vanilla, caramel and some booze. Nice, but a bit simple.

Bottle split at Amager Brewery mini tasting, RBESG ’15 day 3, thanks to Papsoe, 22/08/15. Hazed mahogany brown with a decent beige covering. Nose is rich fruit, barrel, spice, dates, caramel, rich malt. Taste comprises toasted marshmallows, subtle bourbon, coconut fudge, caramel, rich fruit, Xmas cake, light wooded barrel. Medium + body, fine carbonation, lightly rising alcohol in the close. Solid BW, well executed, good sipping machine.

KRS 240115. Brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is bourbon, malt, hop, caramel, alcohol. Flavour is bourbon, malt, hop, caramel, alcohol, vanilla, wood, dried fruits. Full body. Very nice beer.

Bottle. An unclear, amber colored beer with a dense, light beige head of moderate size. The aroma has some alcohol, booze actually, with wood, caramel and some dried fruit notes. Quite nice but a tad boozy. The same goes for the flavor. Wood, bourbon, some vanilla hints and dried fruits. Resin notes. It’s full-bodied and warming, with a pleasant carbonation level. Lasting finish. Too woody and boozy this one, but it’s nice anyway. 150124

Bottle 500ml @ Geokkjer
Pours hazy reddish brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, dried fruits, oak, vanilla and alcohol. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and light to medium bitter with a long warm, oak, vanilla and dried fruity finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle from the Hansacompagniet Systembolaget, Malmo. Poured a clear dark amber with a frothy off white head and some broken lace. The aroma is rich boozy alcohol, toffee fudge. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich malt alcohol liqourice bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
