A truly English golden Best Bitter, brewed with hops from England's Hopshires. Full bodied with a well-rounded hoppy character. No Hocus Pocus, just great beer.

Bottle at home, thanks to James, 13/02/16. Very lightly hazed golden orange with a well appointed off white covering that retains well. Nose is biscuit, light spice, trace herbal, bread dough. Taste comprises light floral notes, orange, bready, straw, grain. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close with a bitter linger. Average.

500ml bottle, shared with Finn. Bubbly surface. Bright golden body. Dotted spots on the glassware. Lemony hops and earthy malty aromas. Similar modest taste of lemony hops and grainy malts. Dry bittersweet tail. Average (hotel room, Hull 24.11.2015).

Cask at the Prince Albert, Ely. Dark gold, mostly clear and flat. Smells jarringly if sulphur, metal, peach and grass. Astringent, sweet fruity taste. Hints of toast and raspberry jam. Bitter astringency asserts itself again in finish. This beer grew on me, a bit too sulphurous at first but I began to appreciate the balance over the course of the pint.

50cl bottle from a Bargain Booze, in Milton, Stoke-on-Trent. A pale amber pour with a thin white head; the aroma has some citrus and sulphur; the taste is similar to Shep Neame Spitfire with some aggressive green hops up front, and a pleasant gently citrus finish. A pleasant, fresh, hoppy bitter.

500 ml. bottle @ home. Slight touch darker clear toffee amber with a spotty fungus-like head. Sweet slightly sticky toffee nose, cheap pudding, caramelized brown sugar, raisin bread. Tastes of herbal caramel, toffee, touch metal, caramelized brown sugar, herbs, lightly bitter, touch sticky. Fizzy, light. Agreeable fare.
