Deep Ellum draught, circa 2009.
Dark, not ultra dark. Clear. Large greyish-tan head, good retention.
Bit toasty with deep roast accents, cola and caramel. Excellent yeast signature with good minerality, cellar notes and plaster. No alcohol noted.
Some chewiness to the body up front but drying out quite severely with peppery phenol, light roast and toast becoming prevalent. Good de Ranke yeast character without too much crudity. Maybe a touch heavy on the toast/roast element but well-done.

0.33 l bottle from 'SpeciaalBierPakket.nl', bottled in February 2025. Hazy, very dark ruby to black with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty and slightly fruity aroma of caramel, cocoa and dark fruits. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly roasty and a little fruity taste of caramel, cocoa, toasted nuts, dark fruits, some clove and traces of coconut, followed by a short, moderately roasty-bitter, slightly yeasty-spicy finish. Medium to full body, smooth and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pleasant and well-balanced beer, quite rich and saturating.

Bottle shared at the June DCBeer share. Poured a dark brown color with ruby highlights. Flavor was nicely roasted with hints of nut and light cocoa. Balanced and robust.

Aromas are dark malt, roast, Belgian yeast and candy sugar. Flavors are similar to nose, fairly mild with sweet slightly dominating. Add in a touch of metallic and mineral. A bit chalky. While good and not great, still very drinkable.

Zo, deze zijn welkom. Stevig donker bier met lekkere schuimkraag, goede co2. Vooral de vrolijke nasmaak bevalt me.
