After a long wait, our Special Reserve No.5 is pretty much ready. it’s an 8.4% big, bold, double IPA. It’s fresh, piney, big-bodied and with a bitterness that’ll slap you in the chops.

Can from Tesco, Reading. Deep gold with a white head and a tad too much fizz for my liking. Smells sweetish, and indeed caramel id to the fore in the taste. Pine cones through, with a little gingery spice. A rather grubby, cardboardy bitterness finishes it off. The hops feel a bit old in this one, and frankly I didn't particularly enjoy it. Not one of Buxton's finer moments I'm afraid.

440ml can. Poured a mostly clear golden colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grassy, piney, light citrus. The flavour is over moderate bitter, with a crisp, fresh, piney, nettle, light dry pepper spice, big hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

12 April 2025. At ‘t Taphuys, Tilburg. Cheers to mom, dad & Anke!
Wet grass, wet cloth, winegums, soy milk. Sweetish apple, grass, winegums. Grassy hops, bitter grapefruit. Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Oof, something was off here; must have been a bad batch?

The 1950 'B' movie Tom Holt western 'Storm Over Wyoming' sees him taking on a corrupt sheep ranch owner in the now US State. The state of this beer is pretty good, certainly its strength is evident but it's a very hoppy effort too with pine strongest in aroma, but there's enough in taste too to enjoy.

(Draft at Akkurat, Stockholm, 24 May 2025) Pale amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Hoppy nose with notes of citrus, orange peel, grapefruit and resin. Malty, hoppy taste with crisp-bread, citrus, grapefruit, resin, pine needles and a generous citric/resiny bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a slight sweetness. Rich, hoppy and fairly bitter. Very nice.

Pine, malt & bubble gum aroma.

Malt, resinous, pine, grapefruit g citrus tastes with an extremely bitterly hopped finish.
Classic WC style - Right up my street.

As you would expect, a classic example of a rich and malt driven DIPA. Just lovely.
