This top-fermented dark beer is brewed with roasted malts. The secondary fermentation in the bottle gives it its powerful and pleasant character. Reddish-brown with a creamy and persistent head.The nose is quite complex, powerful and full-bodied with earthy notes of old wood. First aromas are powerful (alcohol), spicy (wood) yet always well balanced, leading up to a pleasantly caramelised finish. The round mouthfeel and roasted malty flavour reinforce the aromas of coffee and toffee (molasses and caramelised butter). Its dark colour and warm strength make Waterloo Double Dark a delicious beer!

Bottle from bu11zeye. Pours with a light brown head and good lacing. Around 30SRM brown body. Aroma of dark fruits, followed by banana esters, cloves and yeast. Taste is yeasty with honey light citrus pleenty of dark fruits and some cloves. Creamy with light bubbles.

Bottle at Monk, Brussels, 25-07-08 This beer was served in an earthenware mug so colour was difficult to determine (looked brown) This is a fairly simple inoffensive dubbel, quite smooth some soft candy and demarara sugar, malty and I keep coming back to the sweetness maybe a little too sweet, its ok.

Bottled. Deep hazy amber colour with small beige head. Aroma is caramel malts, alcohol and some spices and yeast. Slight notes of burnt sugar and plum too as it warms up. Flavour is sices, yeast, strong caramel malts, brown sugar as well as mild wooden notes.

33 cl bottle from Beer Planet - what a store. Clear, dark mahogany color with a fine, multifingered, tan head. Aromas of dark fruit and roasted malt - but light in each case. Medium body with coarse, creamy carbonation. It is dark fruit, it is darker roasted malt. It is also a touch of tar. Or dark treacle. There’s also some spice, perhaps even anise. Rather complex, and leaves strange flavors at the finish. It’s very good, but not quite balanced. On the other hand it is complexly tasty. Glad I tried it. Glad I didn’t get a 750 ml. Cause I’d drink it all. It’s really pleasurable to drink. Not sip.

Bottled. Lighty hazy ruby, average head. Aroma of caramel and cardamom. Sweet and densely malty with rounded mouthfeel and medium-full body. Lightly nutty and soapy with some strawberry and peach. Flavourful and quite complex. Surprisingly good souvenir beer.

(33cl bottle) Hazy, dark amber colour with a massive beige foamy head. Sugary sweet toast-malty nose with caramel, light spicy notes, dried fruits and a noticeable alcohol. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Molassy toast-malty taste with caramel, subtle fruitiness and a tinge of spices; the alcohol gets more and more obvious towards the finish, which is sweet, malty and a bit brandy-like. Just okay.

Bottle (bought at Rudat’s, Dortmund): Rddiosh amber coloured, stable yellowish-tanned head, solid sweet fruity-malty nose with a touch of molasses; full sweet flavour, full bodied, a bit fizzy MF; sweet dark-malty finish with a rather restrained bitterness in the aftertaste. Not bad, but quite sugary and a bit monotonous.........
