On tap at Boxing Cat, Fuxing Rd. Cloudy golden with medium white head. Some citrus, herbal, sweetish. Light bitterness. Pretty simple.

Small white rim over hazy orangey golden beer. Straw, malts - not only pale - and a bit as old grains, maltsyrup as well. Perfumey, but with a bitter edge, clashing. Again maltsyrup - with a bitter vegetable and a herb as lavender. Bit slick, bit oily too; light bodied, rather undercarbonated. One big criticism - apart from all the usual - clashing flavours, unbalanced. Txs to Stef!

Bottled. Clear pale golden, mid sized head. Aroma of red apples. Mid sweet with light-medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Fruity and bready. Mid bitter finish.

On tap at Hong Kong Island Taphouse, pours a hazy blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out gentle piney hops, biscuity malt, and some herbal notes. Flavour is rather herbal in the hop department, with biscuity malt and some pot. Not too bad - smells better than it tastes.

The contender extra pale ale 4.9% has the least head of the taster set making it look like the poor cousin. A deeper gold than the helles. It does have a pretty darn nice citrusy/floral hop nose with a bit of stinky cheese funk. Light soft round carbonation & a smooth mouthfeel plus a tasty hoppy bit overturns the disappointing look. Delicious. Once warm it mellowed nicely. Ap 3 ar 8 t 8 p 4o 13-14 ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
