2016 catch up - Bottle at home - A very sweet beer that to me was almost cloying. It left a strange mouth feel and this is a beer I didn’t enjoy.

Bottle. From Eebria ages ago. 9 months out of date. Clear, very dark red. Big, bubbly head, that settles into a lasting film of tan. Lots of fizz to this. Nose has ripe plum. Milk chocolate. Soft vine fruit. Some earthy, charred wood to it, too. Taste is dry. Very earthy. Loads of fizz. I must say I don’t like stouts with too much fizz. Finishes mostly dry. Ok. Should have drunk this a year ago, so I can’t be too unkind.

Bottle brought into Alounak. Pours deep brown with a monstrous, mountainous mocha head that fills the glass and just lingers. The nose holds some dusty cocoa, burnt leaves, earth. Light-medium sweet flavor with notes of sugary milk chocolate, ripe cherries, burnt grain, toast, minimal bitterness. Light bodied with lovely carbonation. Finishes sweet and a little sticky, with notes of simple chocolate, roast, slight mocha, vanilla ice cream, bread, dried semi-dark fruits. So so.

500ml bottle conditioned (4.5% ABV): BBE 11-2015. Picked up from the brewery and brought home to drink. Poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 10th Jan 15, the last beer in a personal ’random beer tasting’ with myself. Black bodied with a rich, deep, foaming tanned head. Roasted malt nose and taste, chocolate front with coffee close behind in the flavour stakes, a mild yeastiness just below the semi-sweet surface. Very mild bitterness finishes each sip after the milk chocolate flavours slowly die away: nice.
