A “Comox Special Bitter” is an experimental beer style you may not find anywhere else! Inspired by the German Altbier and the California Common beer styles, this is truly a style unique to us. Fermented with a hybrid German ale yeast, that was selected to thrive at the cool end of normal ale fermentation temperatures, and lagered in the tank for five weeks. The result is hop bitterness well balanced by a sturdy yet clean and crisp malt character. A well-balanced, well-attenuated, bitter yet malty, clean, and smooth, amber- to copper-colored beer. “Comox Special Bitter” is an experience that all beer drinkers can enjoy.

3.4

Medium brown body and modest foam, very little aroma except maybe some malt sweetness. Flavour is weak malt with a somehow boozy kick, soft caramel. Mouthfeel has a bit of dryness but is otherwise weak. This is missing all the essential elements in a bitter.

On tap at Land & Sea, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out gentle English hops and a bready malt base. Flavour is along the same lines, with bready malt upfront, a touch of hops, and some cereal malt sweetness. Gentle and well-executed. Solid.

Light copper grains. Clear gold with a decent white head. Light malty notes with a decent finish.
