Master brewer Alfred Van Roy launched Dobbel PALM in 1947 as a festive beer to celebrate the brewery’s bicentenary. Dobbel PALM is an amber-coloured, top-fermentation beer with an even more pronounced malty and hoppy character than PALM. Dobbel PALM is the ideal connoisseurs’ beer for the festive season.

Amber with a tan head. Sweet, a touch of pepper, red fruits, a bit of toffee. Medium bodied. Finish has a fruity sweetness. It’s fine.

Bottle at home. Aroma of bready malt, caramel, toffee, butterscotch, some cherry and red fruits, light herbal notes. Flavour is moderate sweet with a little bitterness in the finish. Body is medium. Not a bad beer, not a good beer. I like the fruity touch, but there’s still a malty dullness to it. A small step up from regular Palm though.

Bottle at Cafe Onde de Toren, Essen, Belgium. Drink this classic a lot but never rated it. Amber looks, and more of taste than the regular one.

Flesje gedronken bij E en J. Amberkleurig bier met een stevige schuimkraag. Aroma is moutig en fruitig (pruim, kers, mandarijn). Smaak is hoppig en caramelachtig. Nasmaak is iets bitter.

Bottle, 6% ABV. Appearance- brown, with a small beige foamy head which quickly goes. Aroma- caramel, raisin, malt, stewed dark fruits, fruitcake. Taste is malty brown bread, biscuity malt, raisin and dark fruit hints, trace of marzipan and Christmas cake. Short and sweet finish.

Vintage 2002. Refermented in the bottle. Hoppy, peppery aroma with a hint of citrus. Nice, creamy head. Malty taste with orange, hop, grapefruit and pepper flavors. Good lacing. The extra strenght and maltiness does the beer well, it is much better as the original Palm. Re-rate: the "normal" dobbel palm (not refermented in the bottle. Malt and licorice aroma. Medium to full bodied. Sweetish, malty flavor with grapes. Nice and easy to drink, but lacks complexity and power compared to the bottle fermented version.
