Bottle (bottled 02/18): Literally black, no head to speak of, sweet and alcoholic nose of toasted malt and coffee; full bodied, sticky, solid bitter-sweet flavour; caramel and port-vinous illusions in the solid bitter-sweet finish. Drinkable, but lacks complexity...

Bottle at home watching CBJ v Bruins late. Dark pour smaller head. Nose is chocolate, cola and booze. Tastes of coffee, molasses, chocolate, burnt malts, booze and orange peel. Belgian yeast is present. Boozy but approachable.

355cl Bottle via trade with SVD a few years ago, thanks Stefano! Black colour, brown head. Aroma of ink, umami, hard roast, hint of caramel. Flavour is dry, ink, umami, lots of roast but not the really good stuff, cheap bitter coffee, inky finish. Medium to full bodied.

Huge Belgian clove nose and back, crisp and Belgian warmth with a dark malt slightly roasted balance.

Draft in a tulip glass at the brewery, inky black. Roasted grain aroma and licorice taste, with nice bitter malt finish. Enjoyable impy.

Aus der Flasche 2016-12 getrunken. Sehr gut balanciertes Imperial Stout mit schöner dunklen Schokoladennote.

Big mean mutha of an Imperial Stout, boozy and bitter as all hell. Was expecting something far more decadent and candy-like, what with the "Belgian-style" on the label, but this bottle’s a dry, spiky, hornet’s nest of a stout, full of roasted mocha notes and unrelenting alcohol heat. Gives up deep roasted chocolate, sure, but the espresso middle combines with slight hints of raisin and anise to keep thing from ever approaching sweet. Sticks with the bitterness--the fade steadfastly refuses to grow cloy--but the liquor burn stays too heavy on the palate. Put some age on this puppy and the results will likely be altogether different.

12 ounce bottle. Opaque black color. Small creamy tan head. Big roasted malt nose is redolent of molasses and dark dried fruit. Flavor follows nose with notes of prunes, chocolate and treacle. Intense and rich, with a viscous mouthfeel. Sip this slowly to reveal the luscious, complex layers. Big and bold is an understatement. At just under 12% ABV, be careful out there.
