Alpha King's festive cousin. A big American Xmas Porter brewed with English chocolate malt, Mexican sugar and, of course, tons of strange American hops.

Thanks to Sprinkle for this gem! This is nothing like any Porter I’ve ever had, but should I expect same ole’ from Three Floyd’s??!! Combine a good Porter with a Dreadnaught hop schedule and pull it off with nary a fault and you’d have this beautiful brew! It only can be described as a Porter the way Three Floyd’s would do it. Excellent hop presence with a nicely rounded chocolatety smooth Porter. I wish for only two things, a Three Floyd’s Homebrewer’s Recipe Book and distribution of this fine brewery’s products in my local area.

2002 Vintage
Dark brown coloured body, not fully opaque, but 95% or so. Off-white head that fades fast. Aroma is CRAZY-tons of hops, smoe malt and tons more hops (this beer is two years old!). Medium-bodied; Strong hoppy flavour with no roasty & coffee flavours that you’d expect from this style. Not the traditional porter at all. Aftertaste shows the bitter hop flavour with no usual roasty malt tastes. Overall, great to try (i’ve been saving this bottle for some time), especially at two years, but not really a porter to me. If I had my eyes closed, I would have thought this was an IPA. Many thanks to Mike (BBB63) for sending this to me a year and a quarter ago...Merry Christmas everyone! I sampled this 65 cL bottle received in a trade from BBB63 on 24-December-2004.

Three Floyds always does a good job of taking a well-known style and tweaking it just enough that it is still within the boundaries of the style yet memorable because of its uniqueness. This is another example. The beer is a deep mahogany color with a thick tan head that lasts pretty much the entire glass. Nice lacing too. The aroma bursts with hops, coffee, alcohol and pine. Rich body with a very pleasant blend of flavors. Roasted nuts, coffee, malt and tons of piney hops never let up. The finish is roasty and bitter to the end. I thought the $9 price tag was a bit steep but this is a fine beer.

A black beer with a fine tan head. The aroma is sweet hoppy with notes of coffe, citrus, and oranges. The flavor is dominated by hops combined with notes of coffee and chocolate. A wonderful beer. Thanks to Mads Berg for sharing this one.

Is this Rogue Skullsplitter, or is Rogue Skullsplitter really Alpha Klaus? Poured dark red-brown with a thin light tan head. Piney, floral hops aroma with underlying dark chocolate/mocha. Piney, spicy hops dominated the flavor profile while chocolatey roasted malt stayed in the background. An unusual porter, or is it a schwarzbier? I did enjoy the spicy hops bouquet and the chocolate malt combination, although the beer is definitely slanted to the former.

Draft, at the Map Room Solid brown body, with a thin, lacy head. Very low alcohol taste, but that's only the perception. Rides the very thin line between chewy and watery mouthfeel like a porter should, but with the addition of the 3 Floyds “mouth full of hop pellets” effect. Hop effect can’t help but overrun the chocolate malt taste. Starts out somewhat grapefruitty, but then hangs around when you’ve finished to playfully bitch slap your uvula! Special thanks to Nick Floyd for treating at the Map Room release party!

[draught] Very oatmeal stout like - sweet and thick for a porter - nice head, aroma of chocolate - balanced with a slight hop presence.

Bottled from growler, thanks hopsrus!!
Black, not much head. Tarry aroma. Overwhelmingly velvetty soft maltiness. Richly fruity and chocolatey. Well balanced sweetness and a salty, bitter finish. Possibly the best porter I've ever had!

Dark brown; aroma of chocolate malt. Sweet. Soft malty palate. Thick, viscous body. One of the better examples of traditional-style porter.
