Beast is a strong-willed, full-bodied dark porter. Brewed with a mix of pale ale, chocolate and crystal malts, and hopped with Goldings, Challenger and Brewers Gold. It’s dark mahogany-brown in colour, with a hint of crimson. Rich aromas of toffee, treacle, Mocha coffee, vinous fruit, and chocolate. There’s more complexity on the palate with fruitcake, a hint of rum, more Mocha coffee, herbal hoppiness, vinous fruit, and a bittersweet finish that’s smooth yet complex, rich but not cloying.

500ml bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Deep ruby red with a thick tan head; sour fruit aroma with cherry and plum; thick and oily in the mouth with stewed plums and milk chocolate flavours; then a dry lightly roasted finish.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of dried fruit, raisins, prunes and chocolate. Malty, fruity taste with chocolate, dark fruit, prunes, cherries and a chocolatey finish with a slightly spicy bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel with alcohol very well hidden. Very balanced, but lacking some of the character of the cask conditioned version. Still a nice beer.

500ml bottle. Pours dark brown with a tight, tan head. Aroma of strong, sweet malt, with a touch of fruit and roastiness. The flavour started sweet with some chocolate before bitter, savoury edges took over ahead of a bitter finish. Very good.

bottle. Dark colour, nearly black, large head. Flavours of coffeeand bitter chocolate combined with fruity and citrusy hops, which makes an excellent comination. Dry finish.

Bottle, Co-op, Axminster, Devon, 11-11-06 (different label to that shown) Poured very dark brown, instantly came across as a good strong beer, nice aroma of roasted malts and with some bitter chocolate. taste strong, but suprisingly smooth, roasted notes, even liqourice tasted in this good bottled beer.
