A near black body with a roasted malt nose. This is a smooth, easy drinking black ale. The roasted malt has a nice soft edge and blends well with both the earthy and fruity hops. A slight creaminess and a hint of dark ripe berries, coffee and chocolate round it out really nicely. The bitterness of the hops counterbalances the sweeter elements effectively. Stays in balance right to the end. The body is a bit thin, though.

One of the best balanced black ipas ive ever had. In my opinion balance is incredibly important to this style. Loads of roasty goodness with medium to high bitterness from the copious amounts of pine resin hops. Excellent stuff worthy of being in the top 50.

Testée chez Brewsky à Montréal. Nez chocolaté et houblonné. En bouche, on a toujours un côté chocolaté, auquel s'ajoute un cote houblonné et menthollé. Plutôt sympa mais ne sort pas du lot.

Chocolate and toast with some nice pine hops. Deep dark brown with a rich beige head. Dark roast, cocoa and chocolate with a touch of pine. The pine hop character is a bit under represented, but still quite a nice beer.

Deep mahogany under a small lingering cream coloured head that leaves tight lace. Nose is roasted nuts, chocolate, vanilla, citrus, grass, pine, berry, coffee. Flavour follows the nose with a great balance of light sweet chocolate and fruit with a medium+ coffee and grass bitterness. Mouth is medium+ and creamy with soft carbonation and a dry bitter finish. Excellent.

Poured from 660mL bottle [11/10/18]. Dark brown with beige head. Roast malt with subtle chocolate notes, pine hops, balanced throughout with nothing more dominant. Smooth body.

Bottled, from Broue Ha Ha, Gatineau. Dark brown, rich firm head. Licorice, black currant and grapefruit up front. Mid dry with medium-full body and rounded mouthfeel. Licorice, soil and tobacco mixes with black currant and citrus. Some chocolate before a long bitter finish. Very solid.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a black glow and a nice, three centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of bright grassy and piney hops with some floral and aromatic notes, but the roasted malt shows through as well. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and floral hop notes with a lot of alpha acids, some nice rich toffee and caramelised sugar elements along with a pungent earthiness from the roasted malts. Aftertaste shows a great balance of malt and hops with a smooth, almost creamy finish. Overall, a nice rich Black IPA with a lot of flavours, but the balance of the elements is everything - a lot of hop bitterness around, but the malt makes it robust and rich throughout and not just on the hop side of things. Worth sampling if you can find this and if you like either Porters/Stouts or IPAs. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from IGA Grocery near Berri-UQAM in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 18-September-2016 for CA$6,99 sampled at home in Washington on 07-November-2016.
