Bad Sally is the third beer we’ve brewed with the fine gentlemen over @dandyalesyyc, but the first that we’ve had the pleasure of releasing in BC. We figured the best way to celebrate was to go a little nuts, so we literally did just that.

Bad Sally is a Praline Stout brewed with over 100kg of freshly roasted Pecans and Hazelnuts. The nuts were added through multiple phases of the brewing process to draw as much nuttiness as possible into the beer. We kept the roast profile light on this one to showcase the nut characteristic, upped the caramel malt and added some vanilla to round it out. You get a huge hit of hazelnut when you crack the can, which gives way to a chocolatey stout background and nicely rounded sweetness.

Dark brown, praline nose - pecan, brown sugar- with chocolate. I like it. Thick sweet, pecans, brown sugar, rich. Really good. Want more.

On tap. Pours a very dark brown with light head. Aromas of candied nuts, chocolate, and greasy roasted malts. Salty flavors s follow same with addional almonds and hazelnuts. Sweet chocolate followed by bitter nuts. Very good.

Draught at the brewery
Black colour with small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts with light cardboard. Rich chocolate flavour with nutty character (hence praline), macadamia, coconut; lean mouthfeel, not heavy, with just moderate sweetness; dessert like finish.
Spot on. I wait for an imperialized version of this.

On tap at Twin Sails, pours a deep dark brown with a reddish tinge and a small beige head. Nose brings out lots of cocoa, lactose and lots of toasted nuts. Flavour brings out the toasted hazelnuts and pecans upfront, with lots of chocolate, bit of caramel, and some vanilla. Wonderful expression on the nuts, which cuts down on some of the sweetness. Excellent.
