A naturally brilliant blend of malt and hop characters. Solid gold colour, remarkably aromatic. smooth body with hints of fresh citrus. Dry delicate hop flower finish. A drink that is both distinctive and long on refreshment.

Pours amber and clear, a foamy white covering which diminishes completely. Malty and fruity aromas, hint of lemon, smooth tasting with a caramel finish. Solid bitter.

Classic Scottish beer, launched in the ’90s to remember brewer Robert Deuchars. Thin but stable head, colour a warm golden blonde with orange hue. Fruity aroma, apple, peach, orange peel, malty background, some peppery hops; taste begins fruity, soft maltiness, sweetish, ending in a herbal, quite strong hop bitterness. Stylistically to be regarded as an IPA in the original, British sense of the word, it seems, but in that sense different from the American-style IPA’s we are more acquainted with nowadays.

Has a very faint malt aroma, no real hops on the nose which is rather odd for an IPA. Body is standard gold with a decent head. Flavour is decent malts and sweet hops; simplistic but reasonable. A simple brew but reliable.

On cask @ Waggon and Horses, Sheffield - Golden to yellow body, tiny creamy head. Hoppy nose, with notes of citrus and some underlying malt presence. Flowery and hoppy flavour, little malt in the background. Average at best.

Pint at the brewery. You’d think if it was going to be good anywhere, it’d be here, right? Well, after a few years of having increasingly bad pints of this stuff around Edinburgh, then outright avoiding it in the same locale for another couple of years, I thought I’d give it another go. It’s still the same. Dull as the proverbial dishwater.
