A naturally brilliant blend of malt and hop characters. Solid gold colour, remarkably aromatic. smooth body with hints of fresh citrus. Dry delicate hop flower finish. A drink that is both distinctive and long on refreshment.

Thomson’s Bar on tap! Amber beer with good head retention. The nose is a gentle green note with a creamy background. The taste is creamy/malty/bitter but hard to split these notes up - it’s confusing. The bitterness on the end is more of a burnt maltiness than of any hops. The palate is generally quite balanced but as the pint goes on, the ending becomes more and more unpleasant and there’s no way I’m getting a second pint.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Draft in Edinburgh. A refreshing easy drinking ale. Smooth and creamy with nice fruitiness and not much bitterness.

2011 Note - this isn’t worth drinking outside of Edinburgh. Always great in Edinburgh always cack outside (especially England). It just doesn’t travel IMO.

Cask at JDW, Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland. Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma is fruity, light malty. Flavour is sweet, malty, melon, pineapple, berries, bitter finish. Light bodied. Too sweet imo.

Multiple samplings reveal a fairly consistently lame beer. Deuchars is roughly golden, and vaguely malt-accented. Most of the time, it is in fairly rough shape as the brewery isn’t terribly discerning about who they sell to. Often with diacetyl or sewagey notes as a result. Always a disappointment.

Cask at Victoria station Wetherspoons, London. Golden coloured pour with a medium fluffy white head. Had this at a work colleagues leaving do as it looked like the best of a bad bunch. Hoppy, malty aroma. Tastes malty, hoppy, citrus fruit, slight bitterness. Refreshing. This was in excellent condition and surprised me, a damn good sessionable ale.

Golden coloured body with a thin tan head. Aroma of hops, a touch of malt and some very light caramel sweetness. Light-bodied; Nice assertive hoppiness in the flavour with some fruits as a balance, a touch of malt and a very mild dryness. Aftertaste shows nice hops, but a good balance of hops and malt. Overall, a nice bitter, and shows nicely on cask. I sampled this pint on cask at Crown & Jewel in London, England on 13-December-2008.

cask at Holy Rood in Edinburgh - The aroma has some light fruit, pale malt, hops, and oddly I’m getting some egg in there. That’s not good. The flavor is light, fruity, and mildly bitter. It’s drinkable but underwhelming. It’s quite overrated, IMO. There are plenty of better bitters out there.

Cask at the World’s End, Edinburgh. Great, rich, fragrant aroma of hops and fruit. Super hoppy flavor, fruity and rich with good though light malt. Great spiciness in there as well. A light but very fulfilling beer for its size.

Cask. Slightly hazy golden colour, small creamy white head. Aroma is fruity, nectary, honeyish along with some bisquits and wooden notes as well. Flavour is quite much the same, ending in a rather big fruity and floral way.
