The story: Did you know Ballard is built on top of clay? (Or at least our little corner of it is) We didn't. At least, not until we had to dig, by hand, hundreds of lineal feet of trenching to build out this brewery of ours. It was slow, it was painful, it was sticky as all get-out (and probably threw out more than a couple shoulders). The epic work deserved a beer named after it.
This is that beer. Neither blue nor containing clay, the Blue Clay IPA delivers an aromatic punch and follows through with a big, full-bodied finish. Complex aromas of fruit, lemon and lime combine with a rich malt sweetness to deliver crushable hop juiciness while remaining balanced with ample caramel presence.

Draft pour pint at Obec. A somewhat clean copper red pour. Thin fizz head. A touch of citrus up front in aroma and flavor. I get a good smoke in this IPA. Unexpected, but not bad. It covers up this citrus, and the bitterness lingers long and late. The bitterness borders harsh. The hops are earthy. The malt as well. A unique IPA. Less my style, but it remains very interesting.
