Ridgeway FES matures in a similar way to vintage port. Roasted malts and leaf hops initially provide an aroma of breakfast coffee and fresh spices that gradually fades to reveal liquorice, caramel and raisin notes that are products of the aging process. Beneath all this change, sits a solid and resilient backbone of bitter English hops.

Bottle. nalane do pinty Samuela Smith'a.

Bottle from tbone_, thanks Timo! Almost black colored. Yoghurt and a hint of roast in the aroma. Full bodied, malty flavor with yoghurt, licorice and a touch of roast. Pleasant.

200ml, 8.5 % abv. great to fine this one on tap at Godt Øl. Shared with Skinnyviking. Patchy surface, spotty lacing, a rustic shade to a near-black body. Dark malts, caramel and bread, on the nose. Roasted chocolate malty flavours added by liquorice and caramel and a backdrop of dark berries. Roasted malty ending, sweet. Smooth on the swallow. Good drinking. (Copenhagen 10.05.2018).

330ml bottle. Gluten Free. Dark brown colour, beige foam head leaving lacing and aroma of dark malt, roasted, chocolate, coffee. Taste is malty, roasted, coffee, chocolate, liquorice with nutty, earthy bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonatiom, tangy roast bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

From Apr 2008
This pours a reddish dark brown with a 1 finger head of tannish foam. It quickly shrinks to a fine broken layer with almost no lacing.
The smell has notes of dark fruit, some chocolate, and a wee bit of coffee.
The taste is very light and very thin. I get some plum, some chocolate, very little coffee, maybe some fig but...they are all very minor players in the taste. The alcohol is hidden pretty well but too bad the flavours are also.
I've liked all of the Ridgway beers I've tried until this one came along. This is definitely a one of.

0,5l from bottle at Klubovna, Banska Bystrica. BB 07.05.2018. almost black colour, small tan head. smells earthy, licorice, ripe fruits, some coffee, light bitter chocolate. not overly special smell, but I very much enjoy it. Full body, light carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes earthy, bit ashy, licorice, light sweetness, light coffee, lightly boozy, ripe fruits, peppery. finishes lightly sweet with notes of ripe fruits, earthy and licorice notes. nice one maybe a bit old schoolish (duh) could be a bit more bold I rather rate bit still quite good one.

Fra fat på Cafe Viking (København), sammen med Børge: ibenholt med kort sku. Portvinsvinøs aroma og smak med mørke malter, svisker, rosiner, dessertsjokolader og vanilje. Meget myk, og med stor munnfylde. Farlig lettdrikkelig i solveggen utenfor C.Viking. Streif av luxuskaffe. Mild bitterhet med hint av mørke bær. Superfed.
