Pours with a nice dark beige head and very near black brown body. Aroma is sharp rye, spicy and roasted grains with coffee grounds coming through. Flavour is big roasted rye with baking chocolate and black coffee. Dry finish. This is a very fine dark beer, mouthfeel is full and lingers well on the mouth.

Can - Rich dark roast and some pine. Jet brown with a rich light brown head. Dark roast, nice hops and chocolate. Rich body and a rich finish. Solid, although getting to Black IPA territory.

Nearly black with a light head. This is quite toasty on the nose, porterish, and the rye shows a fair bit. Very toasty, lots of rye with a nice porterish, with a really nice chocolate character. On paper, 53 IBUs is a good number but on the palate I’m thinking it’s not enough...apparent bitterness is less. But this is one of the better local stouts.

Bottle: Poured a black color stout with a brown color head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of bitter dry roasted malt with light black chocolate notes. Taste is also a mix of dry roasted malt with some black chocolate notes and some bitter roasted malt notes. Light peppery rye notes are also noticeable. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not bad but doesn’t necessarily stand out either.

Draught at the brewery; 10oz
Black color with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark bread and arse (it happens in British beers too). Dry mouthfeel; the roasted malt flavor is prominent, the dark malts and rye carry some sourness too, more than average, and the bitterness is strong.
A roasty Stout. Good.

On tap at Doan's, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is quite robust, with lots of roasted malt, a touch of the rye, oats, and dry cocoa. Flavour is much the same, bringing out bold notes of roasted malt and oats upfront, followed by maybe a touch of the rye, but it's minor. Robust and full-bodied, with a perfect balance. This is everything you could ask for or such a thing. Excellent stout.
