Our first ever recipe in 2001, Highlander's ability to stand the test of time is testament to its quality. Proudly traditional, Highlander is the punchy, bittersweet amber ale that Fyne Ales was built on. A nutty, caramel-malt body with sweet red fruit notes and a gently bitter finish.

Cask at Ealing beer festival 2011. A golden coloured pour with a smallish white head on top. Fresh hoppy, citrus fruit aroma. Tastes hoppy, malty, dry, citrus fruit. Quite easy drinking.

A golden ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, light maple malt, fudge, nice. In mouth, a nutty and chalky, grassy hops, not bad, medium bodied. Bottle at Mondial 2011, June 9, 2011.

50cl bottle. It pours and orange/amber colour - maybe lava is a closer description. There are gentle bubbles and a very generous head. The nose has grapefruits and a hint of honey. The taste has sweet malt, more grapefruit and a touch of toffee on the end. The palate shows a tastey medium-bodied beer with a fairly clean finish. Overall, a very sessionable beer if not a world-beater!

14th December 2010. At the Euston Tap with Harrisoni. Clear amber beer. Little white head. Smooth dry palate. Sublte toffee in the malt. Fairly bitter hop without much accompanying hop fruit. Finishes dry and bitter. Dry and bitter without much else going on - not my cup of char!

Bottle that my dad brought along, consumed 25.12.10 Pours light amber with a white bubbly head, quite neutral on the aroma front. There is a steady bitterness, standard sort of bitter but decent enough, finishing with a pleasant citrus bite. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov13 3.2

Cask at the Euston Tap. Clear, amber-gold pour with a foamy, white head. Bready malt and caramel aroma. Moderately sweet with toasted bread, brown sugar, caramel and berries. Light-medium in body with fine carbonation. Some earth, herb and light citric hops linger in the finish, with more mild, bready hops. Quite good.

Cask @ 3 Judges. Dark orange / amber colour, off-white head. Aroam is dishcloth, malty, sour. Flavour is malty, fruity, bit of caramel.

Amber, bubbly head, some bronze highlights. Earthy aroma with light caramels and a slight curranty hop. Sweet character is almost toffeeish, with subtle earthiness and a touch acidity in the finish for balance. Great stuff.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma. Fruity malty caramel flavor with some hoppy hints. Has a fruity malty finish with some hoppy hints in the aftertaste.
