Pumpkin Pie de Brettaville is a magical mix of barrel-aging and the rich flavors of autumn. We start with heirloom pumpkins from Bodega Bay and roast them whole to create a deep sugary caramelization. We add the pumpkins to a bright brettanomyces-fermented beer, and then age it in oak casks with a selection of our favorite pumpkin pie spices; whole vanilla beans, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. Finally we blend the barrels back together to create a cohesive whole with rich layers of oak, spice and caramelized pumpkin. Pair this complex sipper alongside autumn campfires, turning leaves and one extra slice of mom’s Thanksgiving pie.

lots of pumpkin notes, kind of musty, in a good way. Mellow beer, but somewhat harsh pumpkin, all around good. Almanac taproom sf

This beer is a hazy copper-amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of tart fruit, spice and yeast. Medium body with flavors of tart fruit, mildly funky yeast and some pumpkin pie spices. The finish is tart and funky with a spiced fruit aftertaste. Above average overall.

$10.29 bottle, Wine Warehouse. It's a snow day! Pours golden orange with a dusting of a white head. Aroma is tart vegetation, hay, funk. Flavor is tart apple, hay, light nutmeg, light sugar. I wouldn't pick out the pumpkin in this, but perhaps that's what gives the overall flavor.

Tasting at Matt’s
Hazy golden color. Strange aroma, very perfumey, talc, some vegetable (pumpkin?). Nice acidity level, some juicy fruit, citrus fruit, light perfumy spices.

Bottle - Soured pumpkin pie. Cloudy copper gold with a decent white head. Soured pumpkin pie. Exactly as described, the question is why?

Hazy, dull tan. Thin head. Has some brett, has a little bit of spice on the nose. Tart, little bit of brett. The nutmeggy note is quite good, the balance not bad. I’d say conceptually this isn’t great, but the execution is fine enough.

375mL bottle, pours a cloudy bright amber orange with a small beige head. Aroma brings out lots of pumpkin pie, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Flavour is very tart, with lots of puckeringly tart citrus upfront, followed by cinnamon, nutmeg and light vanilla. Very spicy and tart. Rather harsh in tartness, but it's a fun one.

Tap at Brasserie V. Orange-amber body. Thin oily head. Spicy, classic pumpkin pie spice aroma. Quite interestingly, the spices stand up to the big, biting sour tones. Cinnamon, coriander..sort of eaten up in the wine barrel sour tones. Pretty pleasant overall.

375 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/10/2016. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart/sour lemon, lime, pumpkin, green apple, white grape, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, oak, wheat, toasted bread, light caramel, hay, straw, leather, funk, light white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pumpkin/spices, oak barrel, and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart/sour lemon, lime, pumpkin, green apple, white grape, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, oak, wheat, toasted bread, light caramel, hay, straw, leather, funk, light white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Moderate fruity tart/sourness and light yeast/tannic oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour lemon, lime, pumpkin, green apple, white grape, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, oak, toasted bread, hay, straw, leather, funk, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pumpkin/spices, oak barrel, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/sour/spiciness balance; with zero puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from acidity/tannins, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, acidic/tannic, fairly creamy/grainy, and lightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an outstanding spiced Brett wild ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pumpkin/spices, oak barrel, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, despite the high level of sourness/tannins. This feels very well developed on Brett complexity, with a great balance of spice/malt flavors. A highly enjoyable offering.
