In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmaster’s interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

Admin's Note: This entry is for non oak-chip aged batches of Damnation. Previously batches 23, 46 and 69 were aged on oak chips and should be rated under the separate entry.

Bottle from FlacoAlto, batch #39. pale golden color. Citrus, melon and flowery hops in the aroma. Initial flowery hopbitterness with vanilla, followed by layers of fruit, like melon and pineapple. Earthy hopbitterness in the finish. Tasty and well balanced.

(375ml bottle shared @ Nische's tasting, thanks Niko!) Pours rather hazy pale gold with a decent sized white head. Notes of rather sweet fruit, with banana, orange, mixed tree fruit all in there, rather floral (fresh and dried), some sweet pale malt with cereal hints, some herbs, touch of clove, yeast has a bready sparkling wine quality and is slightly dusty, finishing quite dry with orange and grass, slight zestiness, a little dry earth in the back end too, light bitterness. Medium-bodied with mouth-filling effervescence. Quite nicely brewed blonde Belgian type thing, rather delicate and perhaps blown out late in a big tasting. Refreshing.

Taste at Trail's End. Pours a clear, golden color, with a big, frothy, white head. The aroma is guava, mild earth, rosemary, leather, roses, and caramel. Sweet and yeasty, with a mellow, dusty bitterness. Light body, with a creamy, dusty mouthfeel. This is a nicely balanced, complex, and delicious beer.
