Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, plum, apricot, raisin, mango, honeydew melon, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, spicy rye, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, molasses, toffee, smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and dark/black/rye/bready malt notes; with big strength. Awesome citrus/fruity/earthy hops and dark/black/rye/bready malt with an awesome hop/char bitter/sweet and rye spiciness balance; with no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy/sticky/chalky, and fairly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an awesome black IPA. All around awesome citrus/fruity/earthy hops and dark/black/rye/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/chalky/resinous/drying finish; not overly aggressive. For 6 years old, hops still pack a nice punch! Feels like Columbus/Centennial. Very juicy, dank, earthy hops; with a perfectly balanced rich dark/black/rye malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with lingering hop/char dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and impressively spot on style example as expected.
