This "white stout” is brewed with all of the elements of a traditional stout without any roasted malts. Instead, we infuse this decadent, full bodied ale with vanilla and locally roasted coffee to provide delightful aromas of coffee and white chocolate.

473mL can, pours a cloud golden with a large white head. Aroma reveals a nice mix of coffee, vanilla and lactose upfront, with not much in the way of malt backbone. Flavour is much the same, with plenty of vanilla, coffee, and lactose in good cohesion. The lack of roast leaves a bit to be desired, but there’s a reasonably body to this. Basically a nice adjuncted golden ale that’s heavier than usual. Pleasant.

Bottle from the brewery. Cloudy yellow pour with a small white head. Soft roasty aroma, medium roasted coffee, soft spices, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mouth feel is soft carb is more of the same. Light roasty finish, light sweetness, hints of milk chocolate, and soft spices. Interesting stuff. A pale beer with stout flavours is a real mind bender.

This one poured a hazy, medium yellow colour with a soapy/creamy white head. Nice lacing. Scents include vanilla, black forrest cake and confection. First swig was a little sweet, tastes like a vanilla milk shake. A little cocoa, vanilla, confection ice cream and sweet specialty coffee. Finish is sweeter with light coffee flavours lingering.

Can: Poured a golden color ale with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral coffee notes with some vanilla and light residual sugar notes. Taste is also a good mix of floral coffee notes with some chocolate and vanilla with some light residual sugar notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Enjoyable for a style that I don’t drink very often.

Pours a slight hazy, bright yellow colour with a fizzy-froth white cap, average stay and leaving a little foamy lace ring on the brew. Definitely aromas of mildly bitter coffee and sweet vanilla to balance it. The taste shows some fair sweetness and fruitiness with the malt. Almost pineapple lingering. A tad rich in the end, so one of these is good, but not overly because the coffee does blend well enough with everything else. --- Beer merged from original tick of Guilty Remnant - Coffee, Vanilla & Lactose on 03 Jan 2026 at 03:27 - Score: Appearance - 7 | Aroma - 7.5 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 7 | Overall - 7.5. Original review text: Lightly unfiltered, golden colour with an off-white creamyish head, good stay and some mild foamy lacing. A sweet nose with the mix of coffee, chocolate, lactose and vanilla - all with a sweet malt base. Thankfully, the taste is not as sweet as the nose gives out to be. More of a creamy mouthfeel with good maltiness, a touch of vanilla, very mild coffee, lactose with a tad hop dryness. Gets hazy at the last pour. A good White Stout that has lots of coffee-style notes, but not overly sweet.

A golden orange stout with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with vanilla essence, light mineral notes, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with vanilla, almonds, pleasant. On tap at Lupulus.

(On tap @ the brewpub, Dec 23/19) Pours lightly hazed gold with a tight white nitro head. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, moderate roasted coffee, lactose, some herbal hops. Flavour is fairly sweet up front, vanilla cream, chocolate, moderate coffee, green pepper hints, becomes a bit more roasty in the finish with the coffee and cocoa coming through, but also some icing sugar sweetness that's a little distracting. Moderate bitterness. Medium-full body for abv with creamy nitro carbontation. Solid white stout which is always a challenging style, but I was glad to have only a sample pour.

The coconut lends some sweetness and richness. Full bodied with a smooth silky rich mouthfeel. The flavor is a decadent buttery rich toasted coconut and sweet coffee.
