Sour-Barrel-Aged Strong Ale
Boxer’s Revenge is a simple beer at heart. It’s a high gravity wort composed of malted barley, a little raw wheat, and just enough hops for balance. After primary fermentation in stainless steel with our mixed culture, we sent it to oak barrels for long term aging. Our latest batch spent 25 months in oak prior to blending and packaging. Our high gravity barrel-aged beers see extended time in oak to allow the flavors to mellow and integrate.
Fun fact — Boxer’s Revenge is the first beer we ever brewed in September of 2010. We released other beers before it since it’s barrel aged, but it was our first brew.
Another fun fact — the label art for Boxer’s Revenge was inspired by George Orwell’s Animal Farm. We like to pretend that Boxer the Horse escaped to open a brewery!

Enjoyed on tap at Jester King Brewery in Austin, TX. Appearance is a rich gold with a thin white rim. Aroma of light Brett, champagne like, smells light but nice. Taste I think is fantastic, expected this to me more sour than it is, I find it crazy that this is pushing 11% ABV because it doesn't taste like it. Good stuff.

750ml bottle at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Hazy orange color with white head. Funky fruity citrusy aroma with barnyard and horse blanket notes, wineous and wood, light malty too. Taste is sweet and sour and light bitter, funky fruity like the aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Bottle bought through brill & Co. Pours murky reddish yellow with a bubbly with a small bubbly offwhite head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sour, fruity and funky with crackers, pineapple, mango, dry soil, hay, apple cider vinegar, alcohol, yuzu and lemon zest. Taste is sour, fruity and funky with cracker, grapefruit, pineapple, gooseberries, hay, dry soil, barnyard, apple cider vinegar and lemon zest Mouthfeel is slightly sharp, dry, tart and medium bodied. Finish is sour with crackers, lemon juice, pineapple, gooseberries, sour milk, dry soil, hay, barnyard and lemon zest. Bit apple cider vinegar sharp but all in all a tasty sour. --- Beer merged from original tick of Boxer's Revenge on 29 Nov 2014 at 15:05 - Score: 8. Original review text: 3,8

Bottle: Poured a hazy blonde color ale with a medium size foamy head with limited retention and not much lacing. Aroma of tart and oak notes with some light funky ester is quite nice. Taste is also dominated by tart and oak notes with some funky ester with low level of acidity. Hops presence had pretty much disappeared which is no surprised considering the age of the bottle. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Quite complex beer that retained some good drinkability.

Tap at CBC 2014. Beer in the glass brownish, nice head. Starts quite sourish, bitter, grasy and dry. Light fruity notes. Finish with more bitter notes. Okay.

Bottle(RBESG 2014 Grand Tasting): Golden, hazy, small stable white head; hints of vanilla (wood) and yeast in the solid sour nose; moderate sour and astonishingly also a bit sweet flavour, medium bodied; some alcohol detectable in the quite well balanced sour and mildly sweet-malty finish. Nice, nice…

Bottle at home, from an IP trade with a Texan dood, 02/08/14. Dark orange/amber with a decent light beige covering that dissipates after a short stay. Nose is musty grape, funk-me-up, barnyard, musty orchard, dank wood, citric tinges. Taste comprises tangy white wine wood, yeast, green apple core, moderate acidic vibe, funky farm stuff, earthy, lemon pang. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, sour mash and bretty notes in the close. Solid BA sour.
