A generously hopped saison aged for 1 month with over 500 pounds of plums in the wood for our friends at Plum Market. That adds up to over ten pounds per barrel, which lend a deep plum color with intriguing plum and tart citrus notes in the aroma and flavor.

Once again, my friends, we brew a beer in celebration of one of my favorite places to shop for beer. And other good stuff too, I guess, but for me it’s mostly about the beer. But you knew that, right?

Yes, I am that guy in Plum Market, with the cart teeteringly full of more beer than a human should possibly need, and a smattering of other random goods de gourmet.

So, my friends, a toast to this. Another new beginning; this time in celebration of Plum Market’s latest Ann Arbor store. A very different beer aged in oak on a boat load of plums. More than ten pounds of plums per barrel of beer to be precise. All those plums. Mmmmmm, plums.

In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with light cloves, banana esters, light pepper notes, very nice and complex. Bottle at Per’s Almost gone tasting, March 2017.

Mooch tasting at Matt’s
Cloudy orange-amber. Nice aroma, spices and some fruits. Off dry but smooth, spicy with a hint of funk and orange peel, some astringency in the final.
Nice.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy murky orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out earthy yeast, farmhouse funk, a touch of pith, and dry oakiness. Flavour is bone dry, with lots of dry oak, earth, and farmhouse funk. The plums are very subdued and only open up subtly after many sips. Bone dry, with an oaky, earthy finish. Rather astringent finish as well. Very nice, but a little harsh.

Bottle, Brewery Creek. Hazy amber. Thin head. The aroma has some typical JP wild barrel stuff, with a light plum note. There’s a dusty, light pretty note, with an earthy accent. A bit dry and dusty in the finish...just kind of yeasty, without the nuance promised by the aroma. Those plumbs aren’t as prominent as I’d like them to be. Still a nice beer though.
