From Victoria City Food Magazine:

"Blue Bridge Double IPA will join Spinnaker’s other classic brands in liquor outlets at the end of this month [July 2008]. Brewmaster Rob Monk says he’s very happy with how Blue Bridge turned out, a double India Pale Ale (IPA) that owes its complex flavour to the complex hop profile they’ve created using a blend of new world and traditional English hops."

"An emerging new world style, this 2 x IPA blends layers of north-west bittering hops with old-world noble aromatic hops balanced with a crisp English and Canadian malt body."

473 ml can. Pours a full amber with moderate head. Aromas of toasted malts and a bit of cardboard. Flavors of bitter almost vegetal herbs and bready malts. Big on malts; not much else.

Has great large foam on a cloudy brown body, smells of sharp malts and palt ale hops, well balanced. Flavour is heavy cloying malt and fusel alcohol, some biscuit, really offensive at first but gets better as it warms up and alcohol numbs you. Mouthfeel has lingering adjuncts. It's heavy and hard to drink at first, could be more refined.

Bottle - Caramel malt and some light hop notes. Cloudy gold with a small white head. Caramel, metalic notes and some booze. Not very complex and just OK.

Hazy golden color; medium sized head, not persistent. The aroma is earthy, light manure, very light sugar and malt. Lean body, common malt flavor, sweetish, with a feeling of straws; common bitterness. Too much is missing here: first of all, hop character, resins, fruitness, then malt backbone. Disappointing, this is an ordinary Blond Ale.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of grains, citrus and mild hops. Flavour of muted hops, pale malts, grain and some herbal notes. Certainly not an IIPA and not too impressive even as a strong pale ale.

Bottle. Hazy golden, offwhite creamy head. Light grassy nose. Herbal and earthy hops, fruity berrylike malt base, ok balance, not exactly DIPA hoppyneslevels though.

Hazy tan. Thin head. Earthy hops with some sweet chewy malt. The aroma comes off very appetizing, with English influences. Hits the palate earthy then gets maltier, but only briefly before becoming watery. The finish is actually bit acidic. Started off nice, then lost focus.
