Tap at Leidsch Bier, Leiden: Black coloured brew with an faint sour taste and also good taste of roasted malts and dark fruits. And there was also fine balanced sweetness.

Same Label (from the picture) of Leidsch Morsporter, but with a circle sticker on the front label saying ’Raisin Porter’ in English, with some of the other words on the sticker in Dutch, including the brew by date, of 27-October-2013. Deep dark brown coloured body with a rich tan head, only two centimetres tall. Aroma of deeply strong raisins, figs and prunes with a lot of roasted malt, some chocolate, unfinished yeast, bread, metal and a touch of nice caramel. Medium-bodied; Silky smooth mouthful with a good raisin flavour, some stronger chocolate flavours, hints of nuts, but with that pitted fruit flavour that hits at the end. Aftertaste shows a little earthiness from must, malt and even some vague hints of an old ale styled beer with mostly the elements of a porter or even a mild. Overall, a nice and robust beer with a good flavour profile, some strong raisin and pitted fruit sweetness and a complex malt taste at the end. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from De BierKoning in Amsterdam, Holland, The Netherlands on 17-January-2015 for €2,65 sampled at home in Washington a day before our country’s birthday on 03-July-2015 to celebrate a different kind of red/white/blue. Brewed: 27-October-2013 // Purchased: 17-January-2015 // Sampled: 03-July-2015

Bottled, BB 27-10-2013, large sample. Dark color, big frothy light brownish head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, blackcurrant, biscuit, dark chocolat, some fruity esters, dark bread. Not much of the raisins in aroma. Lots of dark bread and coffee. Quite bitter in taste, a lot of which is from the dark malts, but also some hop bitterness is present. Sweet as well. Again, I dont get a lot of raisins, even when I’m searching for it. Quite dry in taste, slight high on carbonation. Bit unbalanced. Ok stuff, but I wouldn’t buy a crate of it.

Bottle shared with Joes, Dutchdrebus and Martinus. Opaque very dark brown color, medium sized light brown head. Smell roasted malts, coffee, chocolate. Taste malts, roasted malts, coffee, bitter, chocolate and maybe just a touch of raisins, but if it hadn’t been in the name I don’t think I would have tasted it. Medium body, medium yet suitable carbonation. Lovely.

Tap at De Paas, Den Haag. Poured a cloudy dark mahogany colour with a frothy tan head. The aroma is yeast fruit and alcohol. The flavour is alcoholic bitter which lingers well into the finish. The fruit reminds me of kirsch. A liquid Black Forest gateaux perhaps.
