Pours a hazy brown with an off-white head. Aroma of malts, woody smoke, smoked bacon, some dark fruits. Flavour is mostly malty, with a lot of smoke. If you enjoy the style, this is recommended.

Bottle 0,75: New trend in the small Dutch breweries smoke beer. Hazy brown coloured not so intense smokebeer, just like Spezial Rauchbier, Bamberg.

Notes from October 2012 $3 bottle from New Beer. 12/12/A notch. A bit of a gusher upon opening. Hope the price break didn't mean this was headed to the clearance rack. Things have to be pretty bleak to land there. Ommegang chalice. Muddy amber/brown body. Whispy off-white head. Smell is a moderately rich sausage smoke. Faint char & alcohol. Feel is a bit thin. Taste is a bit more subdued. Light ash, sweet char, mellow whiskey. Lingering bark-like bitterness. Odd, twangy fruit finish. Paired with the thin, beaded body, & the overeager start, I'm guessing that this one will start turning sooner rather then later.

Bottle. Amber color. Beechwood aroma with hints of smoked sausage. Medium to full bodied. Beechwood flavor. Malty with hints of apple. Some soft malty sweetness shimmering through the smokiness. Well rounded beer.

A hazed dark amber Rauch with a very thin light mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light peated notes, light grassy hops, light dark fruits, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity caramel malt with light peated notes, dark fruits, plums, alcohol warmth, very nice. Bottle from Bièropholie, Bb 2012.

I love smoked beers but this one’s a little off. The smoke quality is nice in part, with a nice smoked wood element, but it is also strongly meaty, with a sausage and bacon thing going on - which isn’t had in itself but it has a slight rancid element that kinda ruins it. Flavor similar, but a somewhat acrid smokiness creeps in, and a vague tartness.
