An Imperial Red IPA made with caramel rye malt and many other exotic malts. Made with very generous quantities of Summit and Newport hops, this beer is quite a balanced treat. Our brewers decided they wanted more out of an IPA so they used a Belgian yeast strain giving it a wonderful Belgian like aroma.

12 oz. bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks Dany), pours an opaque dark mahogany with a medium beige head. Aroma of caramel, candied sugar, Belgian yeast, rye and a bit of a bready quality - doesn't hint anything resembling an IPA. Flavour is an exquisite mix of caramel, rye malt, grapefruit, fruity esters, phenol, Belgian yeast, candied sugar, biscuit / bread, and a slight lingering hop profile along with a cloying sweetness from the candied sugar. Quite nice, though this could use a bigger hop profile to balance the sweetness.

12oz bottle pours murky copper with gold edges and thin tan head. Good looking beer that looks like you could really sink your teeth into that degree of opacity. The aroma emits prunes, pine hops, cherries, a thin layer of Brett infused wood and floral hops. The array of aromatic I’ve just written look like a jumbled mess but this really comes together and smells great. The taste is as thick and chewy as it looks with pine hops and sticky syrupy wort. There’s also mellower notes of cherries, prunes and yeasty spices. This is full hop forward yum. Well done.

On tap at the 2010 Winter Solstice. Poured a clear amber with a white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of pine with a nice grain backing and a hint of caramel. Flavor had a nice combination of grains and pine with a bit of caramel coming out to round out the beer.

12 oz bottle. Murky chestnut color, large tan head. Aroma of liqueur, citrus, caramel. Taste is brandy, oak, lots of alcohol. Not bad.

Thanks to hailsquishface for this - medium amber beer - aroma of floral hops and biscuity british and rye malts - spicy hop flavor, with some tangy citrus - I’m not really getting any belgian yeast character - a lot of warming alcohol in the finish, and fairly strong grapefruit flesh and citrus rind - the alcohol becomes very apparent as it warms - pretty strong sweetness in the finish, too - a bit brash and lacking balance, but fairly tasty.

2008 MBG Winter Beer Fest. This was a very leafy, hoppy beer backed by caramely, bready malt. Tannic, citrusy, and a touch medicinal, but the leafy characteristics are what left a lingering impression. This cut my palate after a few dark beers.
