A full-bodied brown ale with smooth hints of pumpkin and brown sugar. We brew our Punkin Ale with pumpkin meat, brown sugar and spices. As the season cools, this is the perfect beer to warm up with.
Punkin Ale is named after the seriously off-centered southern Delaware extravaganza Punkin Chunkin (check out some of these Discovery Channel videos of Punkin Chunkin, you gotta see it to believe it!). In fact, Punkin Ale made its debut as it claimed first prize in the 1994 Punkin Chunkin Recipe Contest. Yes, that was a full 6 months before we even opened our doors for business!
Since its debut, we've brewed Punkin Ale each and every fall. It is released right around Sept. 1 each year. When you find it, grab some extra because it's usually gone by Thanksgiving.

12 oz. can, 7.0% ABV. BEST BY: FEB 2024
AROMA: I'm first hit with fair amounts of pumpkin and brown sugar. Following that are moderate amounts of nutmeg and cinnamon. All-in-all a nicely balanced aroma that is not too heavy on any one scent.
APPEARANCE: Pours a crystal-clear golden brown with a very tall, off-white head, that dissipates very slowly and has very nice lacing.
TASTE: Sweet with the predominant flavors being pumpkin and nutmeg. Those are then followed by a minor amount of cinnamon, a bit of booziness, and finishing with a hint of brown sugar and vanilla. While the flavors are there, to me, they seem a little watered down. I like the overall flavor profile, I just wish all the flavors were amped up a bit more.
MOUTHFEEL: Medium-bodied with a slight creaminess. Carbonation seems about average. I think if this were truly a full-bodied beer (as the description proclaims), then I would enjoy it a lot more. But, for me, it seems a little thin.
OVERALL: This is certainly not my favorite pumpkin beer, nor is it even my favorite "new for me" pumpkin beer that I've tried this year. Out of all the pumpkin beers I have ever tried, I would say this one falls squarely in the middle of the pack. Not the best, and not the worst. Would I buy it again? I'm not sure. There are other pumpkin beers that I like much better, and out of the new ones that I've tried this year, this one ranks last. So the competition for my dollars is formidable. However, right now, this beer is on the cusp of making the cut for future funding. I think the biggest disappointing thing was the slightly watered down flavors. I bought a six--pack so there are 5 more chances left to sway my vote.

12oz can. Somewhere deep in the backlog. Big pumpkin pie spice aroma. Filtered looking orange body, steady off-white head. Pretty right on Pumpkin Ale, a little bigger ABV than most. Borderline overspiced, but OK.

Poured from 12 fl oz bottle. Clear amber orange with small off white head. Mild pumpkin spices, nutmeg dominant, a little hit of booze and a little more than a touch of metallic character, lacking in body. There are better pumpkin beers out there if that's your thing.

Bottle. A- Gourds, clove, mild spice. A- Orange color, hazy liquid, off white head. T- Gourd, clove, nutmeg, holiday spice. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, malty finish. O- A bit on the old side but not bad. Gourds are natural tasting with a blend of mild spices. Definitely would be better fresh, but not bad. Not my favorite pumpkin brew but tis the season.

12oz bottle from Brewers Haven. Clear amber, thin tight head. Aroma is pumpkin with light savory notes. Taste offers light cinnamon, pumpkin. Pretty simple and focused on the pumpkin.

Pumpkin spice, and tons of nutmeg. Obviously not something I'd drink much of but that goes for all pumpkin beers. Some cloying spice flavour. Some pumpkin pie. Tasted from someone else's bottle.
