Our aptly named Christmas Ale is based on the strong beers traditionally brewed by Belgium’s trappist monasteries and has a light golden colour. Because of its high strength this beer has an intensely fruity palate. Up front it has a honeyish sweetness but the finish is dry and champagne-like. On tap until early January.

Pours a clear golden, with a quickly dissipating tiny white head. Aroma of sweet lemon candies, subtle tropical fruit, and strong boozy yeast. Incredibly thin mouthfeel, almost no carb. Very sweet finish, slightly vegetal. This was rough.

5oz pour at the Mt Pleasant location. Pours hazy light blonde with white head. Aroma has an okay Belgian yeast expression, citrus peel. Flavour has orange peel, coriander, and some spicy Belgian yeast. Decent carbonation. I find it hard to classify this as a tripel, more like a strong lager that happens to use Belgian yeast.

Taster at the brewery. Pours a golden with a white head. Aroma is flowery, fruity, and somewhat similar to Belgian Saison. Similar taste that is again very close to Belgian Saison with hoppy bitterness, moderate sweetness and some honey notes. It is decent, but fairly hard to drink even the full taster.

Draft - Sweet fruity yeasts and stone fruit. Clear gold with a decent white head. As it smells, fruit Belgian esters, touch of perfume and not much else. OK.

Sold as "Steamworks Blitzen Belgian Tripel". Smell of yeast, some hops. Lemon yellow colour, small white head. Aroma of honey, overripe mango, yeast. Finishes with white wine / champagne. Sweet to begin with, slightly sour in the end. Flat carbon, semi-oily texture. Heavy body.

Now called "Blitzen Belgian Tripel". Pours a light golden colour with tiny clear particles that float around, but the overall brew is clear. White head with decent retention and some light creamy lacing. Good spiciness in the taste with the Belgian Ale and fruity-grainy malts. Alcohol is well-hidden with just a slight warmth. Grainy aromas with hints of grass and spices. A real easy-drinking Belgian Tripel that I would have again. Wish I could try this just a little less filtered.

Bottle from the LCBO. Slightly cloudy light gold with just a thin white head that dissipates quickly. Nose of yeast, banana, bubblegum, honey cloves and light cinnamon. Lightly sweet honey start with a bit of fruit tartness displaying apple, pear and some green grape. Spice is understated and unobtrusive. Medium slick mouth with soft carbonation. Decent

2020 rating 473 ml can Really has gone downhill Pours a clear amber with light head. Aromas of burnt rubber, plastic, and dried vegetal bananas Flavors of Belgian yeast, mucky citrus, and biscuity malts with a side of sugar. Kinda drinkable, not a drain pour, but not another. Original rating - 2014 7/3/8/4/15 650 ml bottle. Pours a clear yellow/gold with very little head. Aromas of candied fruit, light banana, and light coriander. Flavors carry the same but are stronger and clearer with additional notes of white pepper and citrus. Not quite the depth of a Belgian Triple but still nice and no hint of the ABV. One of the best Steamworks offerings. Why just a winter beer?

Poured from 650mL bottle. Clear light yellow with white head. Aroma of light belgian yeast and hint of coriander. Flavour is the same, mild-medium alcohol, light-medium body. Not a lot going on here for a tripel.
