Bottle from the Brewery. Solid black color with a smallish tan head that dissipates quickly to a cap on top. Rich roasted grains with bits of caramel and licorice dominate the nose. Hints of alcohol, a touch of spice and a bit of light fruitiness round out the nose nicely. The flavor is rich roasty chocolate and caramel with just a hint of treacle, spice, and alcohol. Just a touch of oxidation actually adds another layer, but I could see this developing some cardboard or sherry fairly quickly. Medium to thick body with a moderate level of carbonation. Nice sipper, I enjoyed the heck out of this after shoveling in the windy eight degree weather of today.
