#MashTag was an epic experiment in crowdsourcing, which handed the keys to the brewery over to craft beer drinkers for a week. We asked you guys via Facebook and Twitter to direct all the elements of the brew and you decided to brew a 7.5% American Brown Ale with oak chips and hazelnuts.

Malts: Roasted Barley, Caramalt, Pale Malt, Amber Malt. Hi
Hops: Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, Pacific Gem.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Milk chocolate, caramel and coffee in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with licorice, coffee, caramel, and milk chocolate. Very tasty, powerful but sticky beer.

330 ml bottle, batch #114, from Vinmonopolet, found during an archeological excavation in my beer "cellar". BB date 20-05-14. ABV is 7.4%. Dark brown colour, small beige head. Aroma of malts, caramel, brown bread, hazelnuts and oak. Smooth mouthfeel. Pleasant flavour, malty and medium sweet, again with caramel, hazelnuts and oak, also hints of chocolate and fruity hops. Brown ales are not normally my favourite style, but I liked this one. It appeared to have survived cellaring in perfect nick.

Medium brown, alcohol, stewed fruits and nutty malts. Sweet, sort of toffeeish, and a touch of nuts. The stewed fruits and alcohol are fairly strong in the finish.

Bouteille: Deep ruby-amber coloured, mid-sized stable and reamy beige head; moderate toasty-caramelly nose with hints of chocolate; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied and quite smooth; nutty-caramelly finish with a drier - almost ashy - aftertaste. A good and pleasant one...
