“Doppel” meaning “double,” this style is a bigger and stronger version of the lower-gravity German-style bock beers. Originally made by monks in Munich, the dopplebock beer style is very food-friendly and rich in melanoidins reminiscent of toasted bread. We add our own twist with the addition of our house roasted coffee. A dark brown body with aromas of coffee, malts, caramel sweetness, ending with a bitter finish.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel Florentin. Thanks Stas. Brown with a beige head. Strong coffee ground aroma with some malt. Sweet malty flavor with caramel, a bit of nuts, some coffee ground and some acidity. Medium-bodied.

330 ml bottle at home. Dark red-brown color with big light beige head. Aroma is coffee with a lot of spicy notes and musty. Taste is light malty sweet, a lot of coffee and some caramel. The finish is quite spicy, I feel a light burning on my tongue, slightly bitter and alcoholic. Light body, oily feel, a lot of carbonation.

(Draught at Beer Temple, Amsterdam, 2 March 2014) Reddish brown colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with generous aromas of coffee, notes of roasted malt and dark bread. Mainly coffee though. Roasted, malty taste with freshly ground coffee, caramel, dried fruit and a balanced coffee bitterness. More than medium body, with a certain malt sweetness. Generous coffee character, but still well balanced. Nice one.

Weiches malziges Finish. 10/11/11/11/8/11

Keg at Craft Clerko, 14/03/14. Chestnut brown with a good sized tan head that retains well. Nose carries good roast coffee notes, spice, dark malts, nutmeg, fruitloaf. Taste comprises light cocoa, toned down coffee compared to the nasal assault but still well evident, pepper, spice, candied fruit rinds. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, sweetish licks in the close. Solid stuff, delivers the coffee as promised!

This beer suits its name, the coffee is dominant and quite delicious. Body is the roasted malt of a doppelbock. Great beer.

On tap at Beer Temple. Deep brown colour, beige head. Aroma of ground coffee beans, some malty sweetness. Flavour is ground coffee, sweet malts, dark fruits, burnt caramel, hoppy and coffee bitter finish. Medium to full-bodied. Tastes a lot smoother than expected from the aroma. Nice.

12oz bottle. Poured a relatively dark, copper color with ruby edges around the sides of the glass, just a small off-white head on this one. Aroma was was light roast, surrounded by a ton of coffee notes. Lots of coffee, roasted characters in this one. Like drinking a cold coffee beverage. Pretty good, roasted, bitter coffee was quite nice, even after drinking quite a bit earlier in the evening.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/5/2013. Pours lightly hazy deep ruby red color with a 2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a ton of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of dark roasted coffee, caramel, chocolate, toast, toffee, brown bread, light raisin, light apple, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of coffee, malt, and yeast notes; with decent strength. Taste of dark roasted coffee, caramel, chocolate, toast, toffee, apple, raisin, brown bread, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of coffee, chocolate, roast, toast, toffee, apple, raisin, brown bread, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and complexity of malt, coffee, and yeast notes; with a fair amount of robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a moderately creamy, smooth, and crisp mouthfeel that is good; could use more body though. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a good doppelbock style. Good balance and complexity of coffee, malt, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to drink for the ABV. Not as malty robust as I was hoping for, but still a nicely enjoyable offering.

Bottle thanks to Guyute_Pig: Poured a copper brown with a whispery off white head. Aroma has spice, jalapenos, and some coffee. Taste is strong coffee bean and roasted malt that meld together well.
