Draft. Blackish beer with a tan head. Light smoke aroma. Light smoke flavor with light chocolate and light nuttiness. Medium bodied. Light smoke and light chocolate linger with light roast and light nuttiness.

Dark brown. Has an ashy nose. Roasty smoke palate. Fairly thin-bodied for the style. Doesn’t have that much malt complexity, at least not enough to pull the smoke across the palate.

The color is very dark, almost black. Nice aroma of smoke and oven fire bread. Dark chocolate flavor, good body strength, a lot of dark bread and some rye; smoke; mildly sweet.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a pure black color with a small beige head. A light milky chocolate nose. The flavor is big chocolate, ash, milky, oats.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a deep dark brown / black with a small beige head. Nose brings out lightly smoked notes, a little pepper, and dry oatmeal. Flavour is really well-balanced, with light smoke, oats, some cocoa and a hint of sweetness. Remarkably well-balanced and quite a deep palate for a porter. Excellent.

Draft - Smoke and lots of toast. Jet black brown with a decent beige head. Smoke, toasted malts and some chocolate notes. Nice, but lots of toast like a rich schwartzbier.

On tap at breakside pub Portland. Pours out dark brown almost black topped with a tan head. Nose is smoke roast malts and coffee. Taste is more of the roast malts smoke and light hops.

[2/26/15] Draught at Breakside Brewery in Portland. Black with a tan head. Nice roasty and mildly smoky aroma with a bit of chocolate and a fruity note. Flavor is roasty and smoky with fruity notes and a bit of chocolate. Medium-bodied. Good stuff.
